250 ml bottle. A black body with a thin brown head. Aroma is a bit milder than expected, still quite obvious. Roasted malt, coffee, dry fruit, wood and alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, rather alcoholic, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, dry fruit and wood. The body feels probably lighter than it really is, but it feels OK as it is. Aftertaste is same as the main taste and stays along. Overall this beer surprises me a bit. The Imperial Stout flavor is somehow somewhere in the background and the flavor from the barrel feels rather boozy but not too typical whisky or whatever, its more wood and alcohol in general. Takes a few sips to get used to it, not unpleasant but I prefer the original Imperial Stout.

250ml bottle, no. 03463, bought at Vinmonopolet, Sjøgata, Bodø. Thanks to Kjell. Jet black body. Bubbly, brownish head leaving great lacework behind. Inviting aroma of earthy malts and dark fruits on a roasted backbone. Vanilla oak in flavour added by black coffee and dark chocolate. Roasted bitter ending, long-lived with tingling alcohol. Well bodied. Tasty and lovely (sister’s house, Bodø 27.04.2013)

Bottle at a tasting in Stockholm, April 2013. (thanks Norman) Black with a tan head. Slightly tart aroma with smoke, oak, dark chocolate, licorice and roasted malt. Similar things in the taste. The aftertaste was long. Tasty.

@Norman: tung oljig vätska. Trevlig rökighet från fat. Trevlig komplexa brända toner. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: A complete absence of light on the other side of this one. A nice big beige head that stays for a long time.
Aroma: Coffee, chocolate and oak.
Palate: Medium + body. Moderate sweet with a fine bitterness. Soft carbonation.
Taste: Lots of coffee and chocolate. Some grassy and acidic notes. Also some alcohol coming up.
Overall impression: Soild product, but miss some depth and fruitiness.
Personal stats: Bottle from Vinmonopolet Oslo - Vika in Oslo, Norway.

Flaske medbrakt av esp0r på hytta. Svart farge med brunt skum . Mye smak av lakris, kaffe, eik og mørkbrent malt . Ølen ble servert litt for kald så raten er litt feilaktig

Bottle from "Vika-polet", Oslo. I first thought I had bought the cognac barrel aged version for half the price when I went home with this one, but soon realised that was not the case when I poured the bugger. Anyway, it pours a large sewage coloured head, and the body is black like a water buffalo emerging from the waters of the Ganga river at Varanasi. The aroma is heavy with chocolate, coffee, some hints of vanilla and wood. The taste is full on with a heavy dominance from the coffee and dark chocolate/cocoa notes, you can pick up some wood from the barrel as well, but not as much as I would expect. There’s a little too much carbonation I think, it could have been more oily. Nice aftertaste which doesn’t really leave your mouth. Overall a nice little thing, I should have had a heavy chocolate dessert with it though.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black body with a medium caramel-hued creamy head. Nose is coffee, dark chocolate and toast, laced with mild whisky and wood. Some licorice in the back with hints of ashes. Taste is dark chocolate, dense caramel-like licorice tones, wood and hints of espresso coffee and dark berries. Full body and carbonation; the CO2 should have been a bit more mellow as it appears slightly fizzy at times. A fine beer, but it somehow fails to make a real impression - the whisky doesn’t really shine, nor any other elements in particular. I’d say the regular NØ imperial stout is better. Still, I like the soft wooden touch from the barrel aging.

Bottle from Vinmonopolets Bestillingsutvalg enjoyed at home
Pours jet black with a massive brown head that after a while falls down to a beautiful thin layer that stays on forever. Smells of dark roasted malts, coffee, oak and some hops. Medium sweet, lots of oak, dark malts and some coffee. Medium bitter finish, quite earhy. A quite nice brew this, but the problem this beer has is it’s origin. The normal Imperial Stout is several steps better at all categories. Compared to the original alot of the complexity has faded off and got replaced by oak - and only oak. The 2011 cognac edition was much more successful
