3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
pours very black, extremely big and steady brown head
smell is very bitter , both coffee and oats
much carbo , especialy for this type of beer
taste is bitter , again coffee and oats. not too much barrel character . no wood, no booze ...wouldnt even try to guess what barrel they used ...
ends in a nice , rather sweet , burnt malts taste . maybe some oak - or is that just the idea ?

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The king is dead, long live the king! I opened this bottle to celebrate/lament today’s news of Hansa Borgs acquisition of the majority of the stocks of Nøgne Ø... In the glass it looks as lovely as the original Imperial Stout, with the exemption of a bit less lacing. The body is black, the creamy, brown head is large and long-lived and stays finger-thick until my glass is empty. The aroma is intense and close to perfect! Roasted notes, chocolate, coffee, leather and hints of whisky. The flavours are rougher than the aroma, with far less chocolate. Instead I get very strong notes of coffee, liquorice and alcohol, with dark dried fruits in the back together with whisky and hints of chocolate. The body is close to full and has an oily texture, but isn’t this thinner than the regular Imperial Stout? Also, the carbonation is far too lively. Of course a magnificent beer, but I prefer the regular.

Fremragende utseende! Svart med mørkt brunt skum. Lukter sterkt av alkohol og sjokolade. Ubalansert og jeg kjenner jeg blir skeptisk. Den imponerer meg ikke i det hele tatt! Smaken er like skuffende, bittert, alt for bittert. Ellers er det sjokolade og alkohol å spore her. Noe føles helt feil. Infisert?

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle: Thanks Palme: Served in the Eindhovens Proatwoater snifter: Batch: 723/731:
Pitch black pour. One brown foamy explosions that gets taken over by a even more brown (blacker brown) foam a d settles down slowly. All that’s left is a pitch black beer witha dark brown head. Yay, I love this!
Aromas of roast, sweat, wood, some rubber, liquorice, coffee, wood/malt/coffee roast, liquorice wood, hints of liquor, berries, whiskey, some chocolate... Quite complex. Very nice.
Flavours of roast, coffee, bitters, whiskey, wood, cream, malt roast, chocolate, deep roast, some liquorice, moss, some vanilla, some liquor, porridge roast, dried leaves, wood and malt roast, liquorice wood tints, some dried raisins and some light vinous ish tones. Deep, roasted and complex, nice!
Aftertaste of roast, liquorice, wood, some coffee, bitters and a hint of whiskey and chocolate.
Low carbo, soft creamy oily silky mouthfeel, full body and a creamy oily texture. Wow, complex, deep, next to the deep roast lots of other things going on. Great beer!

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
25cl bottle, takk Palme! Pours a gorgeous motor oil pitch black with caffe crème head. A near-perfect smooth ImpStout at the base has been rendered one step courser by barreling, acquiring some wood acidity and alcohol fumes on top of the suave dark chocolate, liquorice and coffee. Maybe aging could turn its one-dimensional perfection into complexity...
