3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
250 ml bottle from IPB.
Appearance : Pitch black with very small head that is very short lived.
Aroma : Roasted malt with some tar and ashed. Strong spirit notes with hints of dark fruits and light spirit sweetness. Light piny hops. light smoke.
Taste : Roasted malt with piny hops. Big coffee with light dark (very dark like over 90% cacao) chocolate. Finish persistent and fairly warming. Big cacao notes with coffee and hops.
Palate : Fairly soft carbonation. Warm palate with medium sweetness.
Overall : Quite interesting. Maybe a bit strong on the spirit notes. Nice malt complexity with great cacao and coffee notes. Finish is a bit warm. Great but I think it would have been improved if blended with a bit of the regular stout to bring down the spirit barrel notes to a more balanced level.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a black with a brown head. The nose is anise, spice cake and booze. The pallet is very complex. It starts with a fennel and black licorice and rolls into a boozy peak and finishes with a smokey oak flavor.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at Bruce’s - London. I got this one at Kris Wines. Pours black-brown with a thick, creamy brown head. The aroma holds a bit of peat, ripe dark fruits, raisins. Medium to big sweet flavor, a bit of alcohol, subtle charred malts, more raisins and other dark, ripe fruits, bitter cocoa, torched wood, earth. Medium to full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Warming finish, lots of semi-sweet chocolates, plenty more ripe dark fruits, moderate dirt bitterness. Good balance, nice depth.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pouring out of the 8oz bottle a gloopy viscous entirely opaque black with a thin light tan head. The glass has a few noted alcohol leggings with sizable lacing splotches. The appearance is definately that of an aged Imperial Stout. The aroma is outrageous with huge roasted and slightly smoky malts leading to earthen barrel notes and vanilla bean shavings. After a few more whiffs of the aroma an overall sublime aroma of vanilla and woody booze is left. Sweet, syrupy mid palate with vanilla nuances and a light cocoa dusting are well combined. Sweet finish with roasted robustness and a rather mild bitterness caps off the aged flavour. Earthy and woody barrel flavours persist into the finish with a noted barrel emphasis throughout. This beer is incredibly complex and well rounded for a barrel aged Imperial Stout. Although I am a bit biased because Imperial Stout and in particular barrel aged Imperial Stout are my favorite, this is one hell of brew. Expertly and exquistely crafted and aged I think I would like to try more of Nøgne Ø Imperial Stouts.
