This Imperial Stout has spent one year in oak casks which were previously used for aging Cognac. We think that this has given it a couple of new dimensions, and hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do!

Bottle 25 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours pitch black and opaque with hardly any head - perhaps a vague brownish film. Roasty nose with some sweet brandy and vanilla notes. A little tar also? Rich, rich body, roast and prunes, slightly salty and minerally with an oxidized woody touch. Barrel appears rustic and old - still enjoyable however. Warming alcohol finish. 071112

Bottled@SBWF2012. Pitch black colour, no head. Aroma is liquorice, wood, burning alcohol and some mild syrup. Flavour is much the same, though the alcohol is not that burning. Quite balanced and nice imperial stout.

Bottle at Amundsens Brewpub, Oslo. Opaque black beer. Big bubbly tan head that vanished very quickly. Smooth dry palate. Tangy dark malt. Dark fruits. A trace of sweeter dried fruits underneath. The cognac barrelling is actually quite light. There is cognac at the finish but the wood is very light and dry. Dry finish. Dark and interesting!

Bottle, 25cl. A pitch black beer topped by a small, firm and dense dark brown head. Almost oily pour. The aroma is delicious, the booze playing nicely against the Imperial Stout backdrop with its coffee, chocolate and dark, roasted malts. Some alcoholic scents in the nose. The flavor too is really pleasant, although a bit rougher than the aroma. Sweetness, mocha, dark roasted malts, lovely bitterness, both of the roasted and the hoppy kind. Dark caramel and dried fruits blends in. Full body, lightly warming and still sort of smooth. Roasted finish with bitterness, some booze and some licorice. A really pleasant one, one I can enjoy for a while. 120130
