4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at SBWF 2011.
Black with no head. Very nice beer with a lot of barrel character. Also roasted malt, licorice, dark chocolate and some dark berries. But I must say that I do prefer the original, its more balanced than this one.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled at Gothenburg Beer Festival 2011. September 3, 2011
Light diluted bourbon notes, sweet chocolate and some coffee in the aroma. It’s quite complex and tasty but I don’t think the bourbon really adds anything extra. Chocolate is very present in the taste, only light bourbon shining through.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Nice viscous texture, well-balanced, surprisingly low on sweetness and a solid amount of peat that doesn’t overwhelm. Fantastic beer.

Lots of whiskey, chocolate and some harshness. It seems like the whiskey killed most of the great flavor this beer used to have...

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Originally rated on 5.12.2009. Great barrel aged beer, but the original is a bit more balanced. Whisky notes come through a bit too much

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle. Compliments to Rune for bringing it to our XII Rating Session 27. Jan 2011. Brown head, that leaves a creamy layer on top of the pitch black body. Whiff of damp cellar to the nose. Dark chocolate, blackberries, licorice and notes of cask in taste. Interesting and different!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Just found my ratings from last year, about this beer. Intense oaky, whisky, cocoa, dark chocolate, chocolate baking powder burst from the nose. Woahh. Full bodied, scotch, dark chocolate and lots of whisky. Well balanced. Alcohol fairly well hidden, until it hits the tummy. A truly wonderful winter warmer.

Bottle at Craig Garvie’s house. Pours black with lkittle head. Nose is slightly boozy but roasted notes also there. The first sip is slightly thin but still full of flavor. The whisky comes on late with anice nice warming quality. Good stuff.

20 May 2011, bottle at one of cgarvieuk’s legendary tastings. black, foamy brown head, looks oily. smells gorgeous! alcohol, oatmeal, and a whisky aged stout. really reminds me of Ola Dubh and Tokyo. thin body and oily. not very fizzy. absolutely fantastic! very very balanced for a whisky aged beer. alcohol balances out the tart bitterness of the chocolate. one of my favourite nogne’s
