BrianDorry55 (117), Spring Hill, Florida, USA Nov 8, 2009 Bomber from Knightly Spirits. Pours opaque black with medium light brown head. Aroma is alot of raisins, dark fruits, some roasted coffee...really nice just not strong enough. Flavor is burnt coffee, wood, raisins, and nuts...again though, not strong enough. The mouth feel is too light for an impy stout...This is a pretty damn good beer....just not what I look for in an impy stout...not strong enough of thick enough. allendodd (18), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Nov 8, 2009 This from the cellar I didn’t mark the date, but am pretty sure it is about 2 years old - maybe three. Initial nose is bitter roasted malt. Initial flavors are dark chocolate with roasted grain bitterness. This stout doesn’t have quite the sweetness I was hoping for to offset the dry roasted flavors that dominate through the drink. Ultimately the finish is dry and the end of the palate remains dominated by the roasted/chocolate flavors. I don’t hate it, but don’t much care for it either. It is from the same part of Norway as my wife’s family - and that didn’t gain or cost it any rating points. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Nov 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours like used motor oil. Jet black. Dark brown, thick, frothy head. Aroma is dark chocolate, roasted malt, oily coffee beans, and dark fruit. Taste is dark, bitter coffee, burnt malts, bittersweet chocolate, dark fruit, and light lactic tartness, sort of like in a milk stout. Body is medium-full and has bubbly carbonation. Ends with more coffee, charred malt, dark chocolate, dark fruits and soft alcohol. changeup45 (782), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 7, 2009 Black and thick and pours with a full dark brown head. A thin foam of retention. The aroma is nice, it’s not over-powering or anything but is a very nice scent consisting of chocolate, charred malt, espresso with light cream. Roasty tasting but very smooth, soft, and creamy with a bitter edge in the finish. Lots of chocolate mocha and espresso picked up in the aroma shows in the flavor profile as well. There’s also subtle traces of licorice, molasses or a touch of dark fruit but there’s no mistaking the chocolate and espesso as the dominant flavors. Not the most complex Imperial Stout but it’s so well done I don’t really care. Finwe (56), Grankulla, Finland Nov 4, 2009 500 ml bottle. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma reminds of dark chocolate and roasted malt and coffee. Flavour is not dissimilar to the aroma: chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and some bitterness especially in the finish. daleharshman (181), San Diego, California, USA Oct 31, 2009 500 mL bottle from South Bay Drugs ($9.99). Pours pitch black yielding three big fingers of very brown frothy head. Aroma of roasty toasty grainy malts and rich chocolate. Flavor of dark roasted and slightly burnt malts. More coffee than chocolate. Could actually use more sweetness as there’s a non-hoppy bitterness from the burnt malt and coffee flavors. Some ashiness in the finish. Alcohol is very concealed. Great aroma but I was a little let down once I got to the flavor. Goblincat (356), Westland, Michigan, USA Oct 25, 2009 Pours black with a nice chocolate brown head. The aroma is a great roasted malt and chocolate blend. The taste is a strong blend of the same, with coffee mixing in. Very nice. SHIG (2012), Aviano, Italy Oct 25, 2009 Bottle thanks to mcbackus: Poured a dark oil filled black with a light brown head. Aroma is thick with chocolate and roasted coffee. Taste is that of a roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and a smooth oat finish.
