COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We think the Russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, roasted barley, oat, black, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Crystal hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23°P,75 IBU, 9% ABV.

Imperial Stout fra Nøgne Ø er en tett og helt svart ale med stor fyldighet. Smaken domineres av kaffe, sjokolade, lær og tørket frukt. Vi synes den passer bra til mørk sjokolade og kraftige desserter.

Pours jet black with creamy brown head. Aroma is rich with dark roasted malt, chocolate, and piney hops. Dates, prunes, plums, and raisins are in the background. Taste is awesomely roasted bitterness with a perfectly balanced fruity sweetness. Pine and citrus hops provide a nice sharp bitterness as well. The palate is oily and slick with a full body, soft carbonation, and a long roasted malt and pine finish. An awesome imperial stout with great flavors and perfect balance. One of my new favorites. Can’t wait to drink the one I’m cellaring.

Pours black with a nice head (disappears pretty fast, which is pretty normal by 9% ABV). Smell: dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malts, pleasant liquor notes. Similar in the taste: roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruit - very creamy in taste. Pretty astringent in the end.

Bottle, best before 10/ 2015. Black pour, brown head. Aromas of soya sauce, smoke, fig sweetness, chocolate. Full bodied, creamy and smooth. Flavours of smoke, dark chocolate, some sweetness. Some alcohol warmth on the finish along with some bitterness. Great, ages really well.

pours unclear dark brown, red hue, with a small light beige head showing a good retention and lacing. roasted berries, red fruitiness-plenty in fact, bitter chocolate, green resin and coffee grinds, fairly present spicy character also, some burnt caramel and smoke, roasted acidity, earthy notes. almost lively carbonation - disturbing to me, light to medium body, assertive grassy-spicy-resinous finish. accents on berries and resinous-smoky-roasted acdity.

Bottle, 500 ml. Pours black as night with about a finger of creamy greyish brown head. Sweeter and less malty aroma than I was expecting; chocolate, caramel, and some fruit that I can’t quite discern at the moment. Exceptionally sweet tasting too, with the chocolate becoming more akin to chocolate milk or chocolate cake, with the fruity notes revealing themselves to be cherry, strawberry and perhaps even orange. Surprisingly enough, despite this there is a fair degree of hop character to the taste as well, and a nice amount of bitterness in the throat which counters the other overtly sweet notes well, and accentuates the alcohol warmth lightly. This might be the most milkshake-y tasting beer I’ve ever had; all it’s missing is the viscous mouth feel of the likes of Brewdog’s Cocoa Psycho. This liquidised tin of quality street makes for excellent drinking, though I wish it had perhaps just been a little richer and maltier, like their Porter.
