COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We think the Russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, roasted barley, oat, black, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Crystal hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23°P,75 IBU, 9% ABV.

Imperial Stout fra Nøgne Ø er en tett og helt svart ale med stor fyldighet. Smaken domineres av kaffe, sjokolade, lær og tørket frukt. Vi synes den passer bra til mørk sjokolade og kraftige desserter.

Best to save this one for the end of the day or for dessert. Or you can crack it open at 6pm, like I did, and ruin every beer you drink after it. Wonderful aroma of coffee, chocolate, and fruits. Creamy and rich. This is a beer I wouldn’t mind buying cases of, it’s that good. Probably a perfect Imperial Stout. This vanilla ice cream pairing sounds pretty legit, next time..

Bottle 500ml. Pours black with low-medium brown head. Some lacing. Aroma is of smoke, roasted malt, berries, alcohol, chocolate. Taste is of roasted malt, acidity, sugar, chocolate, berries. Palate: Medium body. Slightly sticky texture. Overall: Good. Not cloying, but not too drinkable either indeed. Good beer, but I see nothing really outstanding here.

Black with a really nice tan head. A lot of roastiness in this one, some licorice, some faint coffee. Taste is roastiness, coffee, and dark fruits, very straight forward imperial stout that doesn’t disappoint, nothing wrong with it, but nothing extremely special, very good, very nice bitterness, extremely balanced and well composed, very nice roastiness, not getting a lot of chocolate though.

Black, shy head. Big black chocolate aroma, coffee and vanilla hint. Some dried fruit hint. Taste is great, could benefit some aging, a little too bitter.

A strong, dark, mysterious beer that only gives up its secrets gradually. The colour is black as pitch and it pours like treacle, giving a firm, thick, brown head. The texture in the mouth is very thick, with the taste dominated by burnt notes of espresso coffee. There is a sweetness there well in the background giving a good balance to this powerfully tasty brew. A lingering, slightly sweet finish reminiscent of toasted Christmas pudding. Should not be drunk too cold. A first-class Imperial Stout.

Pours black with a thick brown head. Aroma is chocolate, dark fruits, caramel and a hint of leather. Full mouthfeel with a strong, bitter coffee taste with notes of dark chocolate and figs. Not a bad stout but not my fave either.
