We think the Russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, roasted barley, oat, black, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Crystal hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23°P,75 IBU, 9% ABV.

Imperial Stout fra Nøgne Ø er en tett og helt svart ale med stor fyldighet. Smaken domineres av kaffe, sjokolade, lær og tørket frukt. Vi synes den passer bra til mørk sjokolade og kraftige desserter.

Bottle into snifter. Pours a deep black color with a small amount of beige head that fades quickly. Nice lacing. Rich aroma of milk chocolate, espresso, lightly roasted malt, vanilla, and cream. Tastes sweeter than most stouts, especially right at the beginning. Lots of chocolate and cream up front. But it’s quickly countered by the espresso and vanilla taste. Finish has a healthy bitterness and is fairly dry. Full body and a cream, smooth mouthfeel. An interesting imperial stout, really good, but not one of my favorites.

Pours almost black dark brown with small creamy brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, nuts, mämmi, dark chocolate, coffee, grass, orange, basement, leather, liquorice. Flavor is heavy malt, medium bitter, medium yeast. Body is full, palate is creamy, carbonation is soft. Viscosity not as high as with George for example. Very balanced without being too massive.

Dark brown colour, huge creamy brown head; aroma of coffe, chocolate, woody notes, hints of vanilla and maybe some herbs and berries; taste is somehow mild with the same notes and spocy alcoholic aftertaste; great imperial stout

Bottle from Palme, thanks! Chocolate liqueur, notes of caramelised sugar, old dusty chocolate, tobacco, pumpernikel, berries and a woody roast. Very complex. The flavour begins with a deep chocolate note, superceded by coffee, all the way into the woody-roasted finish. Creamy mouthfeel, very sweet. Has body though it’s slightly leaner than expected. Excellent stuff with a very interesting, complex roast.

Bottiglia. Birra fantastica e ben bilanciata.
