4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: decants a black-brown clouded unfiltered ale with a frothy mocha colored meringue-like cap. Lace sticks to the glass, light fine carbonation – the result of bottle conditioning. Aroma is a complex affair that has tones of roast coffee, cocoa, dark dried fruits, wet hay, cereals, light fusel alcohol note. Rich full bodied silken thick mouth feel - body bulked up with oats which fell out to lees in my sample. Flavor not as complex as the aroma but is a rich pleasing amalgam of roasty tones, dried fruit and off-setting hop bittering. Long decadent finish where roast astringence compliment hop bittering to a final metallic after taste. Hides its alcohol well until the warming effect comes on. A very decent IRS with a rich roasty character, possibly over rated but very good none the less

50cl bottle. Black beer, with a white-brown head. Nice aroma of roasted malt. Delicious and rich taste of burned coffee, dark cacao and quite some hops. Smooth lingering aftertaste. Amazing beer.

Served on-tap at Al’s of Hampden into a tulip glass.
A - Pours dark as night black with a creamy half finger tall tan head, dissipating down to a light film, leaving little to no lacing down the glass.
S - Smells of dark chocolate malt, coffee, booze, and a light hop bitterness toward the back. This one is pretty sweet with more and more booze coming thru as it warms up to room temp.
T - Plenty of dark roasted chocolate malt up front quickly giving way to a mix of coffee roast, light vanilla sweetness, and a light hop bitterness once the roast dies down a bit. The finish is quite roasted with plenty of it lingering, along with plenty of alcohol burn, for some time. Pretty good but not great by any means.
M - Heavy body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Thick, roasty, feel with plenty of dark roast lingering on the pallet for some time after finish.
O - This one was pretty good but I wouldn’t go chasing it down or anything. It seemed to be a little confused with itself, with lots going on and nothing really standing out.

Bottle. Total black, clear. No head. Liqourice alcohol, herbs and roasted sugar on aroma. Black syrup, strong, dark coffee, roasted malts, bitter, greasy, herbs, minerals, liqoutice. No carbons. Quite rich but not quite as full as you’d expect from the color. Very good but not my favourite imperial. Right temperature is very important.

(Nogne O Imperial Stout) Bottle 500 ml from Cuso, thanks! Into a big snifter, ABV 9%
Totally black colour, with a dark brown head on sitting on top, one finger in size, thick and creamy. Very good retention, medium lacing left behind.
Aroma of coffee, liquorice, light roasted malts, some dark chocolate.
Nice taste, with a little acidity in it at first. Again roasted malts, more notable on the finish, coffee there too, chocolate with vanilla touches, well hidden alcohol. Mildly bitter aftertaste that lingers for quite some time.
Medium body -I’d like it a bit thicker- carbonation on the right levels, slightly sticky on the palate.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma: 7/10. Sour and metallic, with an undernote of hops and minerality.
Appearance: 5/5. This got me really excited; a thick, syrupy, used-motor-oil black and opaque pour, with almost not head.
Taste: 7/10. Surprisingly sour, with a lingering finish of chocolate and some coffee. But almost nothing in the middle. Leaves me hanging, wanting more, not in a good way.
Palate: 4/5. A little thin for an imp stout and definitely tasting of water minerals, but nothing offensive. No flaws here, just nothing worth a 5/5 either.
Overall: 14/20. An uninspiring imperial stout is, overall, still a damn fine beer, but from within it’s family it just isn’t inspiring me at all. No big flaws to this beer, just an absence of excellence. Definitely drinkable, but wouldn’t go out of my way when there’s better choices to be found.

(50 cl bottle from Heinemanns Gardermoen; Batch 1163; Bottled on April 19th 2014; BBD: April 19th 2018) Pours pitch black with three-finger toffee head. Solid retention and beautiful pearly lace. Aroma is dominated by roasted malt with notes of dark fruit and øllebrød. Oily texture, medium carbonation, medium to full body with a long, roasted finish. Flavour is dark, roasted with more sweetness than bitterness but it’s pretty dry for the style and not ascerbic or boozy. Quite pleasant and complex for the ABV.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
The aroma of this beer is just so rich. There are: dark fruits, like blueberries, dark chocolate, best quality coffee, dark bread, tanned malts. Just unbelievable. Appearance is perfect. Jet-black, non-transparent, with massive dark beige tanned head. The mouth feel is also ideal. Creamy, smooth. Perfect balanced body. The taste is coffee, chocolate, bitter. It warms you up, but in the mean time it’s non alcoholic. It’s just indescribable. You just have to try it. It’s the only way to understand the perfection of this beer.
