COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We think the Russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, roasted barley, oat, black, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Crystal hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23°P,75 IBU, 9% ABV.

Imperial Stout fra Nøgne Ø er en tett og helt svart ale med stor fyldighet. Smaken domineres av kaffe, sjokolade, lær og tørket frukt. Vi synes den passer bra til mørk sjokolade og kraftige desserter.

Bottle: decants a black-brown clouded unfiltered ale with a frothy mocha colored meringue-like cap. Lace sticks to the glass, light fine carbonation – the result of bottle conditioning. Aroma is a complex affair that has tones of roast coffee, cocoa, dark dried fruits, wet hay, cereals, light fusel alcohol note. Rich full bodied silken thick mouth feel - body bulked up with oats which fell out to lees in my sample. Flavor not as complex as the aroma but is a rich pleasing amalgam of roasty tones, dried fruit and off-setting hop bittering. Long decadent finish where roast astringence compliment hop bittering to a final metallic after taste. Hides its alcohol well until the warming effect comes on. A very decent IRS with a rich roasty character, possibly over rated but very good none the less

Almost black, opaque, weak head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted coffee & malts, smoke, some earth. Full body. Creamy palate. The flavour is more on the sweet side & rich of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, port wine. Also some grassy hops present. Tasty. Objectively very good. Still it excites me just partly.

0,5L From Vinmonopolet, Norway - Pours a thick inky black. Aromas of liquorice, dark roasted coffee, leather, dark fruits and chocolate. 70% chocolate. Mouthfeel is velvety with low amounts of carbonation. Flavor is quite sweet with prominent flavors of roasted coffee, liquorice and chocolate. Has a well balanced finish that is not too dry neither too sweet. A staple imperial stout in my book. Give it a try!

ENG: 500ml bottle from Sherbrooke Liquor Store in Edmonton, bottled on 27.01.2014, aged for 7 months after purchase in January 2015, poured into the tulip. So the beer have one and a half year since the bottling. Sounds good :) Black, opaque color with medium, brown head. Aromas of licorice gellys, roasted coffee. Roasted malts get stronger after mixing in the tulip. Smoky wooden character overall. Tastes delicately, quite well balanced, but still, the character is smoky. Roasted coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, prunes. Warming up the throat roasted coffee aftertaste. Low carbonation, full body. Overall very dark character, nicely balanced.

Palona kawa, gorzka czekolada, lukrecja, suszone śliwki. Grzejący w gardło posmak palonej kawy. Niskie nasycenie, pełne odczucie w ustach. Podsumowując piwo o dość ciemnym, mocnym charakterze, ale fajnie zbalansowane.

Drank a 08-2014 bottle with my friends before heading to the vierdaagsefeesten 20-7-2015. Liked it. This beer has a rich taste. Full of chocolate. Taste is compelling, strong, dominant. Good beer.

Tap@Taphouse, Copenhagen (Nøgne Ø Takeover 24/06/2015) - black pour with tan head. Dark roasted malty aroma and taste with prominent coffee, chocolate, caramel, some subtle hints of vanilla, also some great hoppy notes coming through, leading into a roasted finish. Great brew!
