COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We think the Russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, roasted barley, oat, black, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Crystal hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23°P,75 IBU, 9% ABV.

Imperial Stout fra Nøgne Ø er en tett og helt svart ale med stor fyldighet. Smaken domineres av kaffe, sjokolade, lær og tørket frukt. Vi synes den passer bra til mørk sjokolade og kraftige desserter.

Opaque, incredibly black with an incredibly thick and sustaining, dark brown head. Dark fruit in the aroma with burnt undertones, milk and lots of sweetness with just an afterthought of crushed coffee beans. Flavor is unique as imperial stouts go. There is burnt fruit (which I personally require for the unflavored style) with some smoke but also an odd tropical sweetness from the American hops that I do not believe works together and also some roast. The body is also a little lean for my taste.

butelka 0,5l. Obfita, brązowa, grubo-pęcherzykowa piana po nalaniu do szkła. Aromat początkowo silnie czekoladowy, kawowy. Czuć też wyraźny popiół. Po ogrzaniu wyraźny alkohol. Piwo czarne jak smoła, niskonasycone. W smaku brak jakiejkolwiek słodyczy, smakuje jak klasyczny stout. Alkohol przyjemnie rozgrzewa. 0,5l trochę nudne.

Aroma of heavy malt, coffee and chalk. Pours a dense dark almost black brown. Thick pinpoint brown head. Tastes of sweet pumpernickel toast with a sour finish and a little alcohol bite. Oily mouthfeel with low carbonation. Rich and round. Very nice.

Pours dark brown with medium caramel cloudy head. Aroma of dark chocolate. Sweet and sour palate of coffee and dates and dark dried fruits. Beautiful imperial stout.

Swaroga (1954) - Brussels, BELGIUM - APR 13, 2016
Dark brown/black stout with medium size beige head. It has a typical aroma of dark chocolate, dried plums and orange peel. The aroma is somehow medium intensive with a delicate alcohol bite. Medium thick and creamy with delicate carbonation. Again not an intensive stout. Medium sweetness, medium roasted bitterness and delicate booze. Very easy to drink and I imagine this on tap being served too cold it couldn’t be called an Imperial Stout anymore. Overall not bad at all but not at all among the best in this elitist style.

(on tap) Aroma:chocolate, roastiness, hint of toffee. Appearance:pitch black,medium-size yellowish head with good durability. Taste;sweet, flavour of chocolate, toffee, caramel, roasty finish, roasty aftertaste. Palate:full body, high carbonation for the style, light bozzyness. Overall:Very complex beer, would be even better with more intensive aroma.

0,5 L bottle, served in snifter glass. Poured pitch black like motor oil with a creamy tan two finger head. Low on carbonation. Delicious aromas of dark roasted espresso beans, chocolate, caramel, dark fruits. Taste: Dark chocolate, vanilla, caramelized creme brulee, dark fruits, toasted bread, raisins, espresso coffee, leather, licorice, dates, butterscotch, currants, soy sauce, roasted nuts. Awesome imperial stout! It’s got a full body, with a thick, sticky and gloopy mouthfeel and a long roasted, bittersweet finish. Fantastic!

Aromat intensywny, palone słody, bardzo dużo czekolady, kawy, kakao. Kolor czarny, nieprzejrzyste. Piana ciemnobeżowa, średnio obfita, drobno i średniopęcherzykowa, ładnie zdobi szkło.

Very rich and balanced, chocolate and coffee flavour, alcoholic, yeasty, licorice. The hops flavour comes out in the finish and has a fresh fruity aroma and the tipical bitterness. Dark brown - black colour, with a reddish nuance. The head is dense, brownish, creamy. Tastes sweet from the malts and from the alcohol but also sightly bitter because of the hops. Full bodied, creamy with a soft carbonation. Hoppy finish. Overall a very good and complex winter beer.

Restrained but enticing aroma in a jet black pour. Mirrored by the taste - a subtle mix of chocolate and coffee with a bit of licorice and vanilla thrown in. Manages to cover its strength without the cloying sweetness of some other examples of the style - which is a big plus in my book.
