COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We think the Russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, roasted barley, oat, black, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Crystal hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23°P,75 IBU, 9% ABV.

Opaque, incredibly black with an incredibly thick and sustaining, dark brown head. Dark fruit in the aroma with burnt undertones, milk and lots of sweetness with just an afterthought of crushed coffee beans. Flavor is unique as imperial stouts go. There is burnt fruit (which I personally require for the unflavored style) with some smoke but also an odd tropical sweetness from the American hops that I do not believe works together and also some roast. The body is also a little lean for my taste.

Bottle. Pitch black with a huge brown head and lots of big bubbly lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, licorice and some undefinably‎ sweet. Flavour is of roasted malt, licorice, coffee, a bit of chocolate, soy, some fruit and hops. Mouthfeel is full. Sweet with a long and slightly bitter hoppy aftertaste. Pretty good Imperial Stout.

Bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown with a finger of fine light brown head. Good retention; minimal lacing. Aroma is medium roast and dark malt--notes of bitter chocolate and coffee. Flavor is similar: mild bitterness and roast up front, fading into dark chocolate, coffee and mild alcohol in the finish. Soft carbonation, medium body, and smooth texture. Excellent beer.

Impressive Imperial Stout, very tasty, combining the sweetness and bitterness of the roasted malts.

50cl bottle, served in Duvel cup. Pours black with medium brown creamy head. Aroma is roasted malts, licorice, chocolate and hints of red grape. Quite complex. Concerning flavour, there’s a clear dominance of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. The palate is slightly hoppy and sugary. No alcohol presence. Full body, perfect carbonation. A very classic and pleasant Imperial Stout.

Smells dank and foul, soy sauce smell in my beer?? Thick brown color with a minimal brown head. Tastes very bitter but it’s nice and smooth, glad it doesn’t taste like it smells! The aroma was not great but we don’t smell beer, we drink it and it drinks well!

2012 bottle. Lots of carmel looking head on the pour, Great aroma the smell is slightly sweet with coffee and smokey undertones. The taste is very even, up front there is a bit of coffee and some nice sweetness. On the way down there is a nice bitter finish.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2013 Pours black and thick as oil and leaves a small and brief, very dark beige head. Aroma of roasted black coffee. Mouth feel is full and smooth. It has good hops but it’s not too bitter, it complements the softness of this drink quite well and lasts long in the after taste. This is a pretty solid imperial stout but it lacks complexity a bit in my opinion.
