COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We think the Russian tsar would have liked his stout this way. A dark, rich ale in which a generous sweetness with roasted malt bitterness. Serving temp.10°C/50°F. Great with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate.

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, roasted barley, oat, black, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Crystal hops; English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

23°P,75 IBU, 9% ABV.

Opaque, incredibly black with an incredibly thick and sustaining, dark brown head. Dark fruit in the aroma with burnt undertones, milk and lots of sweetness with just an afterthought of crushed coffee beans. Flavor is unique as imperial stouts go. There is burnt fruit (which I personally require for the unflavored style) with some smoke but also an odd tropical sweetness from the American hops that I do not believe works together and also some roast. The body is also a little lean for my taste.

Bottle from Mogwai Mat & Bar. Smell of bourbon, chocolates and vanilla. Pours black with a medium brown head. Taste is full with some chocolates, roasted malts and some vanilla. Palate offers a full body which sticks to the tongue. Overall a really nice Imperial Stout. Very tasteful!

500ml served in a tulip glass. Bottled at 22.08.2013. Best before 22.08.2017. Batch # 1017B. A: Pours a dark brown to oiled black color forming a solid, creamy, thin bubbled tan head. Medium to low retention and only few spotty lacings formed and left in the glass. A thin layer remains forever on the top S: Sweet and roasted upfront. Bit fruity too. Strong notes of roasted malts, dark chocolate and moka coffee. Delicious notes of dark fruits. Mainly plums. Notes of wood, brown bread and chocolate biscuits. End is a bit booze T: Slightly sweet and roasted upfront. Notes of dark chocolate, chocolate malts, coffee, brown sugar, dark fruits, wood. In overall, a mild sweet taste and a great 75 IBUs bitterness. Bitterness is mainly made of roastiness. Some grassy hops can also be felt M: Heavy, creamy and molasses body. Medium to low carbonation. Bitter roasted malts aftertaste (for God’s sake! ) O: Outstanding drinkability. Excellent Russian Imperial Stouts [ BA Review @ 11/11/2013 ]

Aroma sencillo, sin embargo muy agradable. Maltas tostadas, café, chocolate, algunos aromas ahumados.

Bottle, 500ml. A pitch black beer with a huge froamy brown head. Aroma is not very strong, but there is some chocolate, nuts and dried fruits. Taste is bitter with faint carbonation and some astringency. Aftertaste reminds me of coffee and mint. Smooth and nice. Not the best Imperial Stout I have tasted, but definitely a good one.

50 cl bottle from a Selver in Tallinn (€ 6,59). BB Oct 2017. Pours black with a beautiful tan head - big initially but drops rather fast, leaving a thin layer (only to disappear soon) and some lacing. The aroma is an interplay of bitter hops and sweet chocolaty malts, it’s quite sugary with a very modest roastiness. As it’s warmed some more it becomes a bit pungent with a hint of alcohol - but not nearly enough for the 9% ABV (at least for my taste). Taste starts with a sugary and chocolaty sweetness that then acquires a bitterish note... Good but a bit too one-sided. Not a hint of alcohol initially, only some when it’s quite warm already and I’ve downed 4/5 of it... The beer’s body is mediumish (would love it to be thicker), it has a near flat carboration and a bitterish roasty finish that is on the dry side. No doubt a big beer, but too syrupy sweet and not ballsy enough for me to give it a better rating.

Very smooth for an imperial. No burn or bitterness, only chocolate and toasted malts. Would be a four-poster beer if the metallic taste was muted a bit.
