4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Kalli (502) - Falun, SWEDEN - NOV 19, 2006
Winous wake-up call of an aroma. Salty salami aroma that even sneaks in some garlic! I could be happy just sniffing this!
Black as night with a small, tan head. Incredibly soft and smooth, full but not big flavour.
Soft, dark chocolate with slight hints of coffee. Finishes with lovely soft, yet assertive, hops and salty sausage.

Bottle from Rehills in Newcastle. Inky black with a thin tan head. Liquorice and sweet chocolate flavours followed by a rich, powerfully warming roasted coffee finish.

Beautiful Imperial Stout. Lovely head, great body, smooth and balanced. I love Imperial Stouts and this is one of the best. It should also get an extra .2 of a point for its most aesthetic bottle.

This may be my favorite stout of all time. It’s so well balanced--not too sweet, not too hoppy. It’s smooth and has a great mouthfeel--nice and full. And the slightly burnt bitter aftertaste is just perfect--not overbearing--leaves a nice coffee flavor behind.
4.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Merrill (78) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 26, 2008
Bottle - cold. First sniff from the bottle was spicey hops, unexpected fro a stout. Pour is very near black with dark brown head and beady tenacious lace. Light leafy nose in the snifter. First sip very rich dark chocolate, caramel with licorice. Well balanced with hops and alcohol - not overbearing at all. Round mouth lighter than the depth of the flavor. Quite bitter with a licorice finish. I like licorice. Strong malt /chocolate /licorice with pronounced hoppiness continues and almost puckers your mouth. Finish remains aromatic. I could drink this all night long.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 CanIHave4Beers (2512) - Des Moines, Iowa, USA - DEC 2, 2010
Pours a very deep black with a medium reddish brown head with lots of good lace. Looks about as good as a stout could. The aroma is whisky and molasses with a dark Cavendish tobacco character that really as the beer warms becomes the most prevalent aroma. There is a good bit of fruity hoppiness to the aroma as well. The flavor starts off with a good cherry and malt sweetness which gives way to lots of molasses and Cavendish with light hints of vanilla and wood. If you were to tell me this was barrel aged I would have no problem believing that. The beer although starting off a little malty sweet finishes with a straw like dryness, perplexing. The palate is silky and rich.
Absolutely top notch as far as Imperial Stout goes.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2008 Top notch imperial stout. 16.9oz bottle. Full and rich, with a alcohol warming that increases as you drink it. Mellow and pretty drinkable for 9%, with a very intricate, crisp, hoppy chocolate sweet aftertaste. Creamy and silky, full of sweet malt extravagance.

From bottle : Pours a dark black oily color with a half finger of medium dark brown head, that has pretty good retention. A very nice complex nose, a mix of roasted malts and hops, with alcohol notes that go very well with the other smells. Taste is really fantastic. Oaks, cherries, alcohol, sweet fruits, ending with some a nice subtle hop bitterness. Aftertaste is malty. Thick filling mouthfull, with a creamy palate, goes down very nicely. Very impressed with this one.

Bottle at Håndverkerstuene in Oslo. Chocolate aroma. Pours black with thick chocolate head. Heavy on the tastebuds with a touch of sweetness, again the chocolate notes are present. Full bodied, oily and with just the right amount of carbonation, loooong finish. Doesn’t get much better than this.
