4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Have been sitting on this for a while! Bottle from State Line, iirc. Sweet chocolate with a Crystal base and prominent C-hops up front (which give a nice, cheerful introduction). Slight acidity with a stroke of salt and tobacco. Pitch pour with dark brown head. Taste is very bitter with some alcohol leaking through, deep, dark roast with a very nice espresso/beany coffee overtone. Chocolate sweetness seeps in a bit before the end, when the dryness retakes the beast. Hops are pushed way to the back now and provide little more than prickle. Plum, light nuttiness, and espresso Schaum. Warm aftertaste. Full, slightly sludgy body with just a touch of scratch from the yeast. Slight oaten oiliness. Nice, soft water. Very high quality - one of my favorite impies!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
16.9 oz bottle to snifter (shared by Jamie). Looks good; a nopaque black with beige lacing. Smells of dark malt, dark chocolate, hops, and roast. Tastes like it smells with a pleasant mouthfeel; could be a bit more viscous though. Hoppy for the style, but I like it.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Visual: Pours ultra-dark black-brown with a minimal quickly dissipating head, barely any retention, a few slow streams along the edge.
Nose: sweet and heavy chocolate-coffee malts (5/10-pungency)
Attack: syrupy darkness
Mid-palate: light fizzy-tingly mouthfeel, (7/10)-malty sweetness, (MAIN) chocolate, fudge malts, mocha coffee, (hint) dark fruit, soy sauce
Finish: light coffee bitter roasted exhale, bittersweet cocoa-malt finish.
Summary: Full-bodied and balanced. More on the coffee-sweet side with minimal sourness and bitterness. Very solid, but just needs a bit more wow in flavour or texture to kick it up to the next level.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Drank and noted 5 Febuary 2013. It was SO balanced, its insane. Big mouth feel with chocolate and coffee, but so well balanced. The sweetness, sourness, and bitterness balanced so perfectly.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Un buco nero di voluttà che ti inghiotte e ti travolge con i suoi sapori intensi di cioccolato scuro, espresso, malti tostati, caramello. Ben nascosto il grado alcolito. Birra estrema e assolutamente imperdibile.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pours black with thick tan head. Aroma is drak malts, strong coffee, chocolate, some cocoa and some fruitness in the background. Light grassy and fruity hop aroma. Carbonation a bit too high. Full and sweet with nice, a bit ashy and bitter finish that provides the balance. Good, rich, balanced imperial stout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from De Hopduvel. Pitch black color with a thin, dark brown head. Aromas of caramel, malt, coffee, figs and sugar.
Earthy malts go together with coffee and hints of chocolate. Carbonation is a little higher than expected, but still adds to the warming character of the beer. Coffee is present in a non too bitter way, supporting the malts very well and gets even bigger in the end, by becoming more complex due to an upcoming bitterness, which still leaves space for the malts. Very oily, smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied - different flavors blend together very well. Aftertaste is all about coffee, with a long lasting bitterness. While the beer smells sweet and malty, taste is in great balance between coffee and malts, supported by a fitting carbonation and a decent bitterness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The beer is opaque and deep, dark brown with a thick, oily, beige collar. The aroma brings loads of malt and chocolate. Distinctly European in both aroma and flavor. Prominent dark fruits and rich chocolates. Low carbonation with a medium body, lighter than I expected given the appearance and abv. Overall, this is a solid beer. I’d have it again.
