2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ernest (5605) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 5, 2013
Bottle.
Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is hazy/cloudy medium amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (cookie, toasted grain), moderately hoppy (grapefruit, resin), moderately to heavily yeasty (dough), with a light note of dried mango.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, yeasty.
Medium body, velvety/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic.
This brewery has gotten kind of clumsy in the last several years, it seems. Perhaps due to growth, I don’t know. This is a bona fide yeast bomb. Vitamin B is the strongest odor here. They must have gotten Sierra Nevada envy, ha. Anyways, the hop odor certainly has some opportunity to delight the senses with some tropical goodness, but the doggone yeast just won’t let it happen. Very gluey/doughy-yeasty aftertaste, no surprise there. Sad.

Has an aroma similar to a Belgian. Golden color. Taste has a distinctive European taste.

Bottle at The Anderson. Light, floral, grassy, light orange body. Fruity and unmistakeably Nogne.

Draught at Oluthuone Leskinen, Oulu. Colour is clear orange with small white head. Aromas and flavours are citrus, pine, fruits, grape, yeast and hops. One of my favorite beers.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 stoutnick (160) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JAN 13, 2013
Peachy colour. Big fruity nose - stonefruits galore. The taste is a nice hoppiness, but too resiny for me. The finish is nice though; not too overdone. This is a good IPA, but too sweet for me.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 fantti (440) - FINLAND - JAN 13, 2013
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BarryKonrad (60) - NORWAY - JAN 12, 2013
Pours deep golden, with lots of sediments, and a humongous head. Aroma is very fruity, with lots of citrus and some hops. Mouthfeel is medium. Flavour is bitter dry hops, with citrus fruits and yeast in there. A very good IPA, but not on par with some of NØ’s imperial offerings.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2013 Perhaps a bit overrated? Have tried this numerous times both bottles and on tap. It’s a good beer which I occasionally buy but I’ve started to look more for other brands. This beer has a cloudy look, more so than many other IPAs. The taste is a good balance of hops, malt and yeast but it lacks a bit of punch, I prefer a more crisp hoppy aroma. In my opinion the Ægir IPA is better. For Nøgne Ø I prefer the more powerful IPAs like Two Captains and #500.
