Imagine that the German have come up with a high alpha fruity hop! "Could that be right?" we asked ourselves. We were in luck to get 100 kgs. The new wonder hop bears the name Mandarina, and it’s presently not commercially available. And how could we present this hop with all it’s glory? By brewing an IPA of course. Please welcome Mandarina IPA.

Big pale beige head. Clear body full of floaties. Tropical fruit and wood aroma with dusty rye crisp bread notes. Dry resiny tropical fruit taste with spicy rye crisp bread notes. Mid-bodied. Sharpish mouthfeel. Dry resiny tropical fruit and spice aftertaste with chocolatey crisp bread notes. Interesting and nice. Very drinkable. (0.5l bottle, from wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)

50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Murky amber colour, off-white head. Lots of yeast. Aroma is a bit muddy, earth, sweat, citrus, clementines, grapefruit, sweet, caramel. Flavour is yeasty, earth, citrus fruits, oranges, clementines, sweaty, grapefruit, caramel, bitter finish. Medium-bodied. It’s a bit cloying, perhaps should’ve been more careful with the yeast.

Bottle bought from Bierkompass.de in March 2014. Hazy orange with a large white head. Aroma of citrus, orange, hay and some toffee. Similar taste. The finish was medium bitter. A relaxed and easy to drink one.

DWG; Pours clear golden with a creamy, lasting lacing white to off-white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, mostly citrus fruits, tropic and pine. Taste is sweet and bitter, light sour, light spicy and mostly bitter lasting. Mandarin, sure. Body is medium, texture is oily to creamy, carbonation is soft. Wow.. compared to all it’s glory it’s as good as my last one. Cheers!

500ml bottle, batch 991, bought at Den Nordiske Ølhandel, shared with my friend Skinnyviking during this year’s Absalon tasting. Bubbly, off-white head with a solid stand and loose lacework down the glass. Mid-sweet fruity aroma, hints of peach and orange. Rather sappy taste of citrus, peach, wheat and caramel malts. Bittersweet tail. Fine bodied. Tasty, maybe I had expected even more from this (Copenhagen 04.05.2014).

@Basunen: ganska snäll. Humlig doft. Smaken är tydlig fruktig och lagom besk. Trevlig. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone ---- Soberness not garanteed!

Bottle at America Strikes Back, Ulfborg. Pours hazy amber with stable off-white head. Intense, hoppy aroma, with notes of citrus and fruit. Bitter, hoppy flavour, with sweet notes of malt and fruit. Acidic, citrussy touches, lasting well into the aftertaste. A nice one.

Godt balansert, medium konsistens.

Bottle at the courtesy of Rune. Low fluffy off-white quickly disappearing head. Hazy peach coloured body. Dry dusty fruit malt aroma. Dusty mild light spicy fruit flavor. Low carbonation. Short finish. A bit disappointing and watery in spite of the high alcohol contents.
