COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Imagine that the German have come up with a high alpha fruity hop! "Could that be right?" we asked ourselves. We were in luck to get 100 kgs. The new wonder hop bears the name Mandarina, and it’s presently not commercially available. And how could we present this hop with all it’s glory? By brewing an IPA of course. Please welcome Mandarina IPA.

Pours an orange unclear beer with a good white head. Smells mandarin, musty, fruity. Tastes fruity, musty with a good bitter finish. Average carbo, thin body and a very dry texture.

500ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours hazy orange-amber, a few floaters. Aromas are strong citrus, muted tropical fruit, light earthy notes. Taste is caramel sweet, grapefruit pith bitter. Creamy texture, bitter finish. Nice.

50cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - a stunning amber with red chinks and a beautiful head. Nose - lime and grapefruit. Taste - lime marmalade some toffee in fact. Hop resin and definitely tasting the yeast from the bottle conditioning. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - great ipa verging on an imperial.

A big inhale offers much to discern. It really is a singular aroma but not the intensity of fruity American hops. Some noble-hop characteristics, musky woody note, malt, molasses, some subtle orange, melon, fresh herbs, sweet malt and alcohol. Not overbearingly fruity. Smooth palate with soft carbonation. Taste is a little diluted unfortunately, there’s some caramel malt and some citrus, woody adnd earthy notes. A really scratchy rasping bitterness. A remarkable sturdy head, almost like a mousse/yoghurt. Endless potential, muted though, someone needs to turn the volume up.

Thick hazy orange with grease paper filmy and ringed head. Bristley and Bullish tropical notes. Initial taste is bitter and silky meeting in the middle with a clean pithy slight grapefruit. Carbonation is solid and expectant. Finish is a remorseful ripe orange before a creamy stick Sweet and weak hop linger. Really jaded but I guess a decent hop profile. These guys don’t fuck about.

Bottle from Den Nordiske Ølhandel, Copenhagen - very murky orange pour with a medium off-white head. Citrus and tropical fruity forward, juicy mandarin, lemon, peachy, some pine, caramel malty, lovely mouthfeel, excellent.

Bottle. Aroma of tangerines and grass. Slightly uncler amber colour with huge beige head. Very soft on the palte despite the bitterness. Fruity flavour with mandarine off course, hay and grapefruit. Mild and pleasant.

Fruchtig malziger Hopfenantrunk mit steigender Herbe. Aromatisch hopfig, dabei vergleichsweise wenig bitter. Vollmundig, hopfig bleibend, helle Fruchtigkeit. Die anfängliche Malzigkeit ist verschwunden. Gut! 11/12/11/11/11/12

Interesting but not as exciting as hoped for. Lacked significance. Bottom line is I don't feel like seeking out another. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
