Imagine that the German have come up with a high alpha fruity hop! "Could that be right?" we asked ourselves. We were in luck to get 100 kgs. The new wonder hop bears the name Mandarina, and it’s presently not commercially available. And how could we present this hop with all it’s glory? By brewing an IPA of course. Please welcome Mandarina IPA.

A big inhale offers much to discern. It really is a singular aroma but not the intensity of fruity American hops. Some noble-hop characteristics, musky woody note, malt, molasses, some subtle orange, melon, fresh herbs, sweet malt and alcohol. Not overbearingly fruity. Smooth palate with soft carbonation. Taste is a little diluted unfortunately, there’s some caramel malt and some citrus, woody adnd earthy notes. A really scratchy rasping bitterness. A remarkable sturdy head, almost like a mousse/yoghurt. Endless potential, muted though, someone needs to turn the volume up.

Aroma/taste of tangerine, citrus and is somewhat sweet for this style of beer. Lovely fruity and resiny aroma and taste with slight bitterness like in lemons and gooseberry, but a nice sweetness like you get from tangerines and apricots.

Bottle. Cooper little hazy with great, huge, white, densed head. Long lasting. Good lacing. Aroma is moderatly but mainly malty (caramel). Hoppy aromas are somewhere in the background - mainly citrus, grassy and earthy. You can feel somewhere hints of honey. Taste is light to medium bitter. The taste is rather semi-sweet with malts all around. Medium body, semi-sweet, medium carbonation, smooth texture, well hidden booze. In general not very balanced IPA, but definetely refreshing and drinkable. Good as session beer.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Tom’s place. Thanks Shumpi. Hazy copper with lots of sediments and small beige head. Nice hoppy and honey-ish aroma, notes of malts and some fruitiness (mostly citrus). There is hoppy bitterness in the flavor, "green", notes of honey, some maltiness, citrus, notes of onion, semi-dry finish. Lively carbonation, medium-bodied.

Bottle sample at a tasting, thanks Shmupi. Hazy amber with a huge head. Floral and citrusy aroma. Sweetish, fruity, with notes of pine, citrus, caramel, a bit green, bitter finish. Medium-bodied, smooth, not dry enough.
