Bottle - poured dark in color with a tan head. Hints of chocolate and coffee. Medium to full bodied. Another solid beer from Nogne.

1 pt. .9 fl. oz. bottle in a pint glass. Pours an immensely dark color, with a medium tan head. The head dissipates quickly, but laces nicely. Chunks of yeast are visible floating within the glass. Yum. It smells of malts, coffee, candied nuts, caramel, and figs. It tastes of coffee, roasted malts, and very dark chocolate. There is a nice, mild hop characteristic helping to balance the flavor. Palate is thinner than expected, but not offsetting.

Pours a very dark brown with a full, light tan, creamy, somewhat rocky head; longevity is fair and some nice lace remains. Nose is pleasant with fudge, light cocoa, moderate coffee roast, and hints at anise and dark dried fruit. Flavor is good as well but more roasted, a bit stoutish; bitter chocolate, burnt fudge, light expresso, hints at molasses and anise, and a moderately high bitterness from both the roasting and the hops. A bit more roasting than most porters, but certainly nice as a stout. Palate is less than medium, watery, lively, and drying; my only complaint from the beer. Finishes drying and mostly bitter with some burnt toast notes, expresso, and some rustic notes lingering; most of the sweet notes disappear by the end. Not like most other porters with the use of more roasted malts but good nonetheless. Somewhere between stout and porter. With a better palate, this would be great.

Noire avec un court col café. Parfum soutenu de caramel, tofee, houblon rôti. Goût plutôt sucré. Très bon produit. J’ai un souvenir lointain de cette dégustation. Ce fut agréable mais pas inoubliable...

Bottle. Pours a black body with a tan head. Roasty coffee, chocolate, caramel malt, light nuttiness, vanilla with sweet minerals to finish.

bottle thanks to KAggie. shared at December Houston Tasting. Pours black with a nice brown head and some good lacing. Nose is funky with dried fruit and some roast malt. taste is same with some chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium-thin with carbonation and a bit harsh. Not the best porter I have had.

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective Porter tasting at Dogbricks on 12/4/08. Pours opaque dark brown with a small tan head. Malty aroma with some roastiness and chocolate. Smoky and roasty flavor, but not a whole lot else going on.

Bottle. Pours a nice black color with a medium tan head. Roasted malt in the aroma, as well as some chocolate in a hint of coffee. Nice balance in the aroma. Sweet taste. Some molasses and brown sugar. Light malt and some roasted coffee. One thing I will say is Nøgne is one of my favorite brewing companies. You know you get quality with them. And this is a solid porter.
