01 Oct 07. 22oz bottle, Purple label. Dark pour. Dark black/brown, brown creamy foam head. Aroma of chocolate, anise, licorice. Rich complex flavors. Heavy semi-sweet chocolate, tart lacto, licorice flavors in the finish. Body is heavy and chewy. Coffee bitterness in the end of the palate. Long lasting chocolate flavors. Heavy alcohol.

Bottle from Quaffs, Spitalfields. As dark brown as most stouts with a thick malty tan head. Nose of sweet roasted malt and coffee, some yeast, honey, vanilla and dark chocolate also. Taste is coffee, baking chocolate and malt. Dry, powdery palate with liquorice, cocoa and hop notes in the swallow. Excelent brew, up there amongst the best I’ve had...

500ml Bottle $5.19 West Lakeview Nogne Porter pours the darkest of browns with very faint mahogany highlights when backlit. A two finger creamy tan head forms on the pour and as it slowly shrinks just gets creamier. Leaves spotty lacing. Aroma is exactly what you would expect from a quality porter. Big chocolate notes hit you first and meld with mild day old coffee. There’s a quick flash of dark berries and mild vanilla. Quick wash of pine on the backend. Very solid enjoyable porter aromas. Flavor is right in line with the aroma. Chocolate hits big upfront and fades to the background but lasts throughout. Mild spent coffee grounds show up mid palate. A quick berry sweetness hits before the balancing pine hoppiness comes along on the swallow leaving a mild lingering bitterness. Very nicely done. Mouthfeel is luxurious. Medium bodied with sluggish carbonation creates an extremely smooth velvety mouthfeel. A good porter to drink the cold winter nights away. This glass is actually disappearing pretty quickly. My first offering from Nogne and will not be my last. Good solid porter with spot on flavors and aromas. Great mouthfeel. 9/30/07

Side by side with Dark Horizon just for some contrast. Opaque black with tan burnt head. Burnt toast aroma with chocolate, dough, and sweet malt. Chocolate flavor with coffee, roasted malt, med sweet. Medium to thin body with no carb. A little thin but very interesting flavor overall.

Bottled. Opaque, brown head. Roasted malts in aroma, some chocolate and coffee. Bitter flavour with some sweetness, coffee notes become more obvious. Lasting bitter finish. Creamy texture. Alcohol remains unnoticed. Nice beer, but more easy drinking than obviously complex.

Bottle (batch no.262) shared with ozujsko, received in a trade with oh6gdx.
Opaque black colour, cappuclino like tan head that went away slowly. The nose is almost all chicory with a hint of chocolate, and the taste isn’t far off; strong chicory, a weak note of chocolate, a touch of alcohol. Not extremely complex but still a nice porter.

500 ml bottle poured a nearly opaque blach with a brown tint and a small lastingtan head. Aromas of milk chocolate, vanilla, coffee and a hint of licorice. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, light vanilla and a hint of licorice with a smooth lingering bittersweet finish.
