Fine example of a porter. Almost black with a good head and lacing, medium bodied with just the right amount of carbonation. Roasted malts arrive first on the nose, and mingle with milky coffee and chocolate in the taste. The tang of the fruit comes at the finish to round it off very nicely.

This beer is dark brown, almost black, ruby red against the light. The head is mocha colored, persistent and huge, leaving lacing. Aroma has chocolate, roasted malts, toffeey sweetness, latte coffee and some licoricy saltiness. Flavor is upfront roasted malty with coffee and bitterness. Palate is thicker than medium and soft with stinging bitterness. Finishes with heavy bitterness, ashy roastiness and acidic coffee. Alcohol heats but doesn’t taste or reek at all. A totally enjoyable porter that could also go for an American style Stout. BBE says this is 13 months old but the hops still make a great bitterness and it has not gone bad.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2014 Chocolate, coffee, dark malts notes, wood and dried fruits aroma. Dark brown color, with medium tan head, persistent lacing. Medium to full body, smooth and creamy. Coffee, chocolate, wood, dried fruits, malt, yeast. Balanced between the sweetness and the bitterness. An incredible porter.

Black with big light brown head. Blackcurrant, smoked and roasted malts, chocolate, red berries. Medium bodied with slightly thin feel. Nice complex porter.

Bottle, 500 ml. Pours jet black with about a finger of tan head. Nice amount of lacing. Big roasted malt presence on the nose, with notes of wholemeal bread, sweeter varieties dark chocolate and a small amount of coffee. Little bit of alcohol but by no means enough to be a detriment. Taste of wholemeal bread, dark chocolate, chocolate cake, and again that big roasted malt presence, with perhaps a small caramel note. Decent amount of bitterness on the back end and a moderate level of alcohol warmth. Low carbonation and a silky smooth mouth feel. Really quite impressed by this one!

Bitter charcoal aroma with some dark dried fruits. Smooth, easy to drink. A very fruity taste with some hints of blackcurrant amongst the bitter, roasted malts. Very full flavoured but also very easy to drink.

Bottle: Very dark brown color, foamy brown head. Aroma is intensive malty and roasty, dark chocolate, sweet cacao. Flavor is roasty, caramelic, dark chocolate, cacao beans, toffee. Very good.

Nøgne Ø Porter is tasty and nicely balanced. Aroma is moderate chocolate and roasty. Pour is very dark brown with a tan head. The roasty and chocolate notes come through again in the taste with the slightly higher ABV evening the flavors out. Definitely give this porter a swig if you get a chance.

Medium sized mocha colored foamy head on top of a black colored beer.
Aromas of roast, coffee, malt roast, rye, some coal, some brown sugars and a hint of flower roast.
Flavours of coffee, darker chocolate, malt roast, bitters, roast, some hay roast, hint of herbs and some hints of prunes and brown sugars.
Aftertaste is a mix of roast, bitters, hay, some coffee and a sprinkle of brown sugars...
Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, medium to fuller bodied and a creamy texture.
Like a porter should be.
