3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 AshtonMcCobb (779) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - SEP 14, 2011
50cl bottle. Pours opaque black with a hint of a plummy colour somewhere around the bottom of the glass. There’s a niced beige head which hangs around for a little while. The nose has milk chocolate and dried fruits, maybe plump raisins. The taste has more of the chocolate but this time it’s dark chocolate and there is a dry amokwy creaminess through to the finish. The palate is big in structure with a nice creamy texture and the finish falls away reasonably well in a fairly elegant style. Overall, an interesting beer, I think it’s got the usual Porter characteristics on the nose but the taste is somewhere between that and a dry stout style. Good beer.

Pura goduria. Una porter con i controcazzi, che ti accarezza il palato ma con tanta sostanza dentro. I nordeuropei sono i migliori.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Braudog (4473) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - SEP 8, 2011
Bottle. Midnight black with an initially nice tan head, but it settles quite quickly. The aroma is of exceptionally bitter cocoa. The bitter drinks with a chalky impression, but I believe it a mind trick as a product of the dry bitterness of pure dark chocolate. Fairly light body. (#4239, 9/8/2011)

On keg at Bacchus, Newcastle. A black beer with a thick, light tan head. Aroma primarily of chocolate with dark malts and coffee. Coffee flavour with roasted barley, burnt toast and caramel. Medium carbonation with a light CO2 prickle and a foamy mouth-feel. A nice long bitter, roasty burnt toast finish.

Bottle. Very dark brown, reddish highlights. Good creamy beige head fades to a thin film. Coffee, dark chocolate, some dark fruit on the nose. Palate is roasty and woody, with a beautiful chocolatey note and a dark cocoa finish. Beautiful balanced porter.
