On tap at Church Key in San Francisco. Pours an opaque darkest brown or black color with minimal head. The aroma is roasty with dark chocolate, anise, and mint. The flavor is nice but not too full. A fair amount of malt sweetness, dark chocolate, lots of roast, and mint. Flat on the mouthfeel with medium-full body. I did not like the lack of carbonation much. A tasty beer, but falls a little short in a fullness of flavor and mouthfeel.

Bottle at patrick767 gathering. Small tan head that mostly diminished, no lacing, opaque, very little carbonation, and a black hue. Nose was malty, caramel, roasty and hoppy. Flavor was malty, roasty, coffee, and some dried fruit. Smooth mouthfeel and medium body. Very quaffable, definitely worthy of a try and I would definitely drink this one again if it were to come my way. Quite tasty indeed and nicely done.

500 ml bottle from Ludlow Wines. I thought it was on sale when I bought it, but it just happened to be on the rack of winter/Christmas beers and didn’t qualify. So I wound up with it anyway. Not a bad predicament to be in, since this is a pretty nice beer. Pours an opaque dark brown with a small brown head with good retention. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, caramel malts, hops, yeast, and mineral notes. Flavor of chocolate and caramel malts, dark fruits (some tart), earthy hops, mineral and metallic notes, and dry milk powder. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a malty mouthfeel. Dry, roasty finish. Very good porter.

KAggie97 (3170) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - DEC 20, 2008
Bottle from KAggie97 at the December Houston tasting. I am gay for KAggie! Pours a deep black with amber highlights and a nice beige head. Smells like Pepto Bismol and melon. Weird. Flavor is blunt chocolate with cough syrup and a faint coffee finish. Highly carbonated and fluffy mouthfeel. Interesting. Good for diahrrhea.

DBF 2005, cask. Black, thin beige head and gentle fine condition. Pleasant sweet coffee and burnt roast barley aromas, full bodied in the mouth with a creamy sweetness and gentle bitter coffee notes, lingering chalky roasted finish with a little sweetness and a restrained bitterness.

Bottle @ home. Deep black appearance with a dark brown head. Roasty chocolate, black licorice, anise, char nose. Strong charred, tar, asphalt, anise, burnt chocolate flavor. Charred, burnt, chocolate, licorice aftertaste. I can’t explain why but I really dislike Scandinavian Porters and Stouts.

FlacoAlto (3086) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 2, 2007
Sampled April 2007
Pours with a three-finger thick, frothy, light brown colored head that dissipates fairly quickly, but ultimately retains a thin layer of foam on top of the beer. The body is simply black in color. The aroma has notes of dusty chocolate, roast coffee beans, a touch of burnt grain huskiness and lots of pronounced, dark-malt derived character.

The taste is sweet, yet still the body is fairly light. It has a medium heft to it as it rests on the palate; it does not have the heft or rich feeling that I might have been expecting from the aroma. Dusty chocolate flavors are noticeable up front and the finish has a distinct espresso character of burnt acidity, and a suite of roast coffee bean flavors. The beer dries out considerably after the first few sips and it is not quite as rich as I was hoping. Still this is a fairly tasty tipple; one which I am quite content to finish.
