Pours deep black into a stem glass. Tan micro head subsides to layer surface leaving slight lacing. Deep chocolate and espresso aromas. Smooth with upfront chocolae and a slightly sour fruit finish.

Bottle from South Bay Drugs. Opaque black with a medium tan head. Prominent roasty mocha nose, very nice. Mmmm very deep, roasty rich chocolaty flavor with the perfect amount of caramel sweetness underneath. Very well balanced with a little citrus hop note in there. Not astringent or bitter. The takeaway flavor is caramel chocolaty goodness. Alcohol content very well hidden. Doesn’t have a thick body like some stouts; more like classic medium/light porter body with soft carbonation. Very flavorful and drinkable. Highly recommended.

Cask at DBF2005. A tasty, nice roasted and surprisingly fresh porter. I have tried this from the bottle several times, but from cask this is much more fruity. Sweet malty aroma with a touch of coffee, chocolate and some liquorice. One of my favourite porters.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 JCB (2918) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - NOV 26, 2007
500ml from Sam’s, Durham. Nice looking pour with a slightly too-modest head. The aroma is delectable, very chocolatey, and the rich flavors continue in the taste (along with a generous, and fairly unexpected bit of smoke and roast coffee). Lustrous mouthfeel initially, but tapers off and is a bit too thin, I think. Overall, though, it’s a lovely porter with complexity and power.

I have been looking for this beer for some time. Pours jet black with a nice but small tan head. Aroma is plums and dark chocolate. No roasted notes. Flavor does have some roasted malt, caramel, milk, black licorice, dark fruit, and coffee. Some nice hops as well. It is nicely carbonated and both the roasted coffee beans and the hops can be tasted in the aftertaste that is a sweet roasted tart flavor. I love a good porter and this is a good one.

A nice roasty, chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, oak nose. Pour is a very dark brown/black with a pretty good light tan head. Flavors of coffee, roasted malt, and caramel. Much roastier than the olfabrikken porter, but not as complex.
