Holy cow, this is tasty. Bottle; deep black pour with smallish and diminishing off-white head. Bitter chocolate, sweet coffee, dried cherries and other dried fruits. A touch of creaminess, but none of that sour porter thing. Minor notes of peat and smoke. Tons of roasty malt and a noticeable hop presence. This is a huge beer, but quite drinkable. Fantastic.

Definitely get the coffee, not as much the dried fruits. More of a nuttiness, really. Damn tasty, but the palette seems just a bit thin to me for a porter.

Pours a black color with a light brown head. Aroma is malty, roasty, and chocolate. Flavor is malty, roasty, slightly smoky, and a hint of chocolate

UPDATED: AUG 3, 2008 Pours a rich, black color with a nice tan head. Smell is dry, roasty malt with some light dusty hops, and some chocolate comes through as it sits a bit. Taste is exceptional. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel and a somehow dry, cocoa flavor balanced perfectly with bittersweet dark roast. Finishes so smoothly and cleanly, leaving a hint of a pleasant aftertaste. Carbonation is spot on, and makes for a silky, creamy beer. Very, very drinkable. One of my favorite porters for sure.

Bottle. First thing is that as I pop the cap there is a fizzy whoosh, but then nothing good or bad really comes of it... flavor is fine, floor isn’t covered in foam, nothing. Anyhow, pour is a dark brown with only about a half inch of head... in spite of the aforementioned sound. Aromas are light chocolate and dark fruit, but fairly faint. Flavor is heavily cocoa with some dark malt. That said, things don’t fully blossom as it is kind of unidimensiona.

Dark brown color, light brown head, brown sugar, cherries, cherry filled milk chocolate in the nose. Med body, milk chocolate, nutty, caramel mouth with a bitter finish. Yum.

Hadn’t really expected much with this and was really suprised to find out how dry the beer was. There was really very little sweetness left, just a lot of ashy/roasted notes that I didn’t find all that enjoyable. The beer looked great though. A nice thick black liquid with a creamy tan foamy head. Aroma smelled a lot like coffee too, with some dark chocolate notes too. I know I’m unabashed in my love of stouts, especially those on the sweeter side of things. This beer was clearly on the other end of the spectrum. But still, I did enjoy the beer and would get it again.
