Bottled. Opaque, brown head. Roasted malts in aroma, some chocolate and coffee. Bitter flavour with some sweetness, coffee notes become more obvious. Lasting bitter finish. Creamy texture. Alcohol remains unnoticed. Nice beer, but more easy drinking than obviously complex.

Bottle pours black with a thick light brown head. Scent is roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Very nice!

Pours midnight brown w/ a tall lasting froth. Even though this brew was right out of the fridge it managed to push up a ton of foam. Great effort. The lacing is sticky, lasting, and fluffy w/ a thick downy canopy. Aromas of roasted coffee and dusty Belgian malts. Full nectar w/ soft and oily residual effers. A big, chewy, mocha basted, gluttonous malt backbone w/ a forward roast component comprise the general disposition here. Dry as a bone w/ heavily roasted coffee bean, leather, degrated darkfruit skins. The finish is bittered well w/ a rather strong hop profile. This is a huge beer. Strong w/ a serious attitude. Drinks like molten dark chocolate. I’ll bet it will benefit from some serious aging. I’m gonna toss a few in the age basket. Highly recommended.

500ml bottle from IPB. Batch 502. Consumed about 3 months after receiving.
Appearance : Black with medium brown creamy head. Some lacing. Green hops.
Aroma : Roasted malt with piny hops. Light chocolate. Dried fruits.
Taste : Soft carbonation. Roasted malt with some coffee. Piny hops. Borderline watery. Light bitterness on finish. Nice coffee and chocolate. Rather dry.
Overall : Very drinkable but a bit simple. Interesting coffee and chocolate on the finish. Enjoyable hops. A bit too faint on the nose and a bit too watery on taste. Not bad at all but a bit weak.

500 ml bottle. Black, almost pitch black, but there are some reddish hues. Thick beige and grey head that clings to the glass. Chocolatey aroma that leans towards cocao powder. Grassy hop aroma. Piney hop flavours and crisp carbonation balances a rich chewy chocolate flavour. Malty, but not really sweet, likely because of the amount of hops used. Bitterness lingers a long time together with oily chocolate. Delicious.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2012 Bottle from vinmonopolet. BLACK body with a beige head. Moderate sweet and a some roasted malt aroma. Massive and also a moderate flavour. Lots of raosted malt. Chocolate, caramel and espresso flavour. I had this on a beer tasting with 20 different Nøgne Ø bottles. Even the girls rated this one as the best. A great allrounder for everyone. Heavy but not overkill.

Pitch black pour with boisterous tan head that is slow to dissipate, but leaves an enticing layer of foamy lacing. Aroma is far more roasty than your average porter. Smokey roast gives way to dark fermented raisin, coffee, caramel, and vanilla bourbon. Flavor mimics the aroma in many ways. Roasty components shine through vigorously. Malt character is very sweet, manifesting in the form of date, fig, raisin, molasses, and caramel. Coffee and chocolate also shine through to create a grandiose set of flavors. Palate is silky smooth with the most modest and caressing of carbonation. Finish is the sort of dryness that only comes from a serious roasted malt component. Overall, very impressive.

Slightly bitter aroma with some roasted malt. Flavors of big roasted malt, coffee, and a faint frutiness on the finish. Tan head gives a creamy texture. Leaves a slightly sweet aftertaste. Borderingon stout size flavors but the body and thickness are lighter like a porter.
