4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 brewblackhole (1581) - Muskego, Wisconsin, USA - APR 16, 2007
Aroma is rich malt, chocolate cake frosting, a touch of strawberry jam, and a coffee bean or two, pretty amazing complexity for a porter, All that variety just dosen’t make it to the taste, surprisingly lighter body, with malt wort and cocoa powder dominating the lighter taste, some coffee bitterness in finish. Touch of fruitness on about third sip, tastes settles into a lighter choclate taste, smooth and creamy ,some unidentified globules on the bottom of the glass. Will have to check out the higher rated brews from this wonderful brewery. Thanks Axel

bottle - pours jet black with some thickness and chocolaty head; aromas of grain, dates and some coffee; decent body that’s well above the all to common watery porter; drinks with flavors of coffee and molasses; very nice
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 reebtogi (1575) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 9, 2011
500ml bottle pours a dark brown color with some reddish hues when held to a bright light source and has a finger and a half of beige head with good retention and some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted malts and a trace of hops. Taste is roasted malt bitterness with enough malty sweetness to balance things out and a pleasing hop bitterness to round things out. This is a really enjoyable porter.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jasonp (1556) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - AUG 22, 2007
Bottle. Opaque black with a medium tan head. Prominent roasty mocha nose, very nice. Mmmm very deep, roasty rich chocolately flavor with the perfect amount of caramel sweetness underneath. Very well balanced with a little citrus hop note in there. Not astringent or bitter. The takeaway flavor is caramel chocolatey goodness. Alcohol content very well hidden. Doesn’t have a thick body like some stouts; more like classic medium/light porter body with soft carbonation. Very flavorful and drinkable. Highly recommended.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 mkel07 (1556) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JAN 21, 2012
500ml bottle. This looks good in the glass with a deep head of light chocolate brown foam that settles to an even film. Colour of the beer is tar black with strong roasted coffee bean and dark chocolate aromas that set you up for what is to follow. Flavour is every bit as good as the aroma and while the beer is thin in the mouth there is a lasting effect on the palate. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate stand out in the flavour and there is a creamy fullness in the mouth that is satisfying.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 nate2g (1548) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 1, 2009
From the keg at Platform Bar, Brisbane. Pours very dark brown with a medium off white head. Rich dark chocolate, toast, mocha and dark fruit. Smooth mouthfeel and good bitterness. A nicely balanced porter. Big malty finish. My only problem is that one glass just isn’t enough!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 glennmastrange (1547) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - DEC 24, 2007
Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of dark bread and light coffee, light hops note of herbs, moderate yeast of earth and smoke, wood and dates in the background. Head is huge, tan and rocky with fair lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is solid black. Flavor is lightly sweet and acidic to start and lightly acidic, bitter and a little sour in the long finish. Palate is medium to full, creamy, with a lively carbonation and finishes moderately dry. A very good smokey porter.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dorqui (1547) - Brescia, ITALY - JUN 3, 2007
UPDATED: SEP 13, 2007 Bottled. Creamy head, clearly nut color. Intense black color; much mushy, compact and dense. Winy and torrefy aroma with notes of must, American grape and braced malt. Much velvety but determined taste and at the same time solid. Aromas of coffee, burned wood and red wine. Extended and much resistant final.
Thanks to mabjork for this beer.
