(bottle) Almost black coloured hue with a light-brown and thick foamy head. Roasty malty and chocolatey aroma combined with a touch of liquorice and a slightly fruity-vinous and minimal piney hoppy touch. Roasty bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a silky mouthfeel. Robust roasty malty taste with notes of dark chocolate, tabacco and tar; dry and roasty bitter and very lasting finish with a cornucopia of flavours in the aftertaste. 22.VI.10

A Mes rate: 50cl bottle at Bier Circus. Wow. What a head. Sim and I have just sat here watching it settle. It came out so thick it looked like you could stand things on top of it. So solid and creamy. Very similar to the Imperial Stout, just a little mellower. Looks better due to the head and easily worth a 5. Slight honey in the nose. Lots of coffee and dark creamy malt. Very definite cocoa. Bitter and alcoholic finish, in fact the finish goes in distinct stages from strong rubbery notes, then bitter, then alcoholic.

Bov (7098) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - JUL 27, 2005
bottled; thanks to fiulijn - pitch-black and a fine creamy, brown-tainted head gives it a perfect appearance; it has a powerful nose where toasted coffee first comes to mind but it is in fact complexer than that as chocolatey and plumy notes are here also; a bit acidic, sweet and quite oily, fairly strong malt body supported by a rather high carbonation; the finish is dry and very roasted with more coffeish and cocolatey notes, the whole thing being quickly overtaken by a strong and warming alcohol kick

Cask (gravity dispense), Chelmsford Beer Festival, July 2005. Oily, black appearance. An abundance of chocolate in the aroma. Smoky, rich malt flavour. Starts fairly sweet, but picks up bitterness towards the finish. The bitterness lingers in the dry aftertaste. Creamy mouthfeel. Rather different from British style porters, but very impressive.

Bottle: Literally black, medium-sized stable & lacy tanned head; solid fruity-port-vinous nose (but not really sweet!) with a robust roasty and chocolatey backbone; medium to full bodied, silky MF; moderate to robust bitter and also a bit sweet flavour; dry roasty and light sweet malty finish with a subtle fruity touch. Very good.....

1 pint .9 oz bottle acquired in trade (Mystery Swap v2) with Dickinsonbeer (thanks Paul!). Poured a dark, dark brown (almost black) color with a large sized tan head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, vanilla, wood, and coffee. Nice smelling Porter. Tastes of chocolate, roast, light caramel, and some coffee. Tastes a tad of a let down compared to the nice full aroma. Smooth body with the alcohol hidden. Lacing left on the glass.

Bottle. Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Moderate roasted coffee and tart fruit aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium dark sweet flavor with medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex beer that would go well with a good after dinner cigar.

Bottle sampled on 8/16/06: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a thin coating of tan head. Sweet roasty dark caramel malty aroma has some bready yeasty notes. Body starts semi-full sweet and smooth with a touch of milk chocolate and good bittering hoppy balance. Very drinkable and enjoyable porter.
