4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 acertain (249) - Seattle, Washington, USA - OCT 19, 2007
Pours jet black with a moderate tan head. Aroma is intense, with chocolate, dark fruits and other malty/yeasty notes. In the mouth, it’s neither thick nor thin, with moderate carbonation. The flavors mimic the aromas, though it’s drier than I anticipated from the nose. Finishes on a coffee note.

500ml bottle from Hi-Times Wine Cellar in Costa Mesa. Poured a deep black with a thin tna head. Roasty malts with cofee and choclate dominated the nose. Flaqvor is sweet with some dark fruityness and cholate blaneced out with some bitter cofee, finishes with a slight bitter hop. Feels great and full in the mouth but finishes suprisingly clean. An amazing brew.

Bottled. Beer is very dark warm brown, nearly opaque. Head is large, creamy, beige, frothy and diminishing. Seagulls on the snifter. The aroma is full, rich, strikes a nice balance between resinous hop and roasty malts. Malty with moderate-to-heavy notes of roasted grain, chocolate, moderate notes of molasses, coffee, light notes of toasted bread crust, creamy roasted nut butter; Moderate-to-heavy notes of resinious hop, lighter amounts of herb/thyme and grapefruit oil, traces of sweet tobacco; Light yeasty note of basement, trace of dough. Intermittent trace notes of woody vanilla, cola and tropical fruit. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter, trace acidic with a longish, warm, lightly bittersweet finish. The body is full, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively. Luxe in every repect.

50 cl bottle on 5/19/08. Dark brown with mahogany highlights and a large, creamy, and persistent light tan head. Inviting coffee and chocolate aroma accented with roasted nuts and a bit of earthiness. Medium to full body and light carbonation match up well with a creamy smooth mouthfeel.
Molasses sweetness subsides slowly, ultimately giving way to a gentle spicy bitterness. Wonderful balance in this fine porter. Very drinkable, highly recommended.

Pours deep black into a stem glass. Tan micro head subsides to layer surface leaving slight lacing. Deep chocolate and espresso aromas. Smooth with upfront chocolae and a slightly sour fruit finish.

Pours a deep opaque dark brown color with a medium tan creamy head. Nose is pleasant with lots of coffee character, chocolate and black malt. IMouth feel is thin and light. Initial taste creamy coffee ice cream persay. Melts in your mouth coffee. Mildly hopped that balances well. Deep richness of the black malt giving off that mild burnt taste with chocolate malt hindering in. Finishing with the continuing coffee and black malt. Average palate duration. Head retention is good with thick sheets of the lacing that slaps the walls of the glass beautifully. Light to medium body and very easy drinking. Simple but delicious.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2008 Thanks to zeke626 for sharing. The beer was opaque black/brown almost motor oilish, generous amount of light brown head. Mild hops and faint chocolate malt were present in the aroma. I tasted fairly bold burnt malt (but not charred) with the faint presence of sugar and alcohol. The hops were almost non-existent. As it warmed I began to get more alcohol and the taste of sweet dark fruit at the start of the beer. Smooth, not too heavy on the palate. A very solid porter!
