black, small but firm film of head. Aroma of roasted nuts, roasted malt, coffe beans and something you would find at a burning fireplace. Taste is a bit hoppy, with tangling carbonation. Well balanced, long aftertaste of mocca, malts and hops. Very nice example of the style

Bottle sampled at the Carolina tasting courtesy of Sam. Thanks! Pours out a black color with a big thick tan head on it. Smell is sweet, full of coffee, chocolate, and some fruity notes. It was served at almost perfect temperature. Taste was sweet and rich, with a heavy flavor of chocolate and coffee, yet very smooth. Not flawed in many ways, a very drinkable, very good example of the style. Thanks for this bottle Sam.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a big slightly off-white foamy head with good retention. Aroma of chocolate malt is quite interesting and well balance by some roastiness. Taste is a well balance mix between some chocolate malt with some roasted malt providing some bitterness. Texture is really creamy and this is appreciated considering the style.

Bottle. Pours a nice black color with a medium tan head. Roasted malt in the aroma, as well as some chocolate in a hint of coffee. Nice balance in the aroma. Sweet taste. Some molasses and brown sugar. Light malt and some roasted coffee. One thing I will say is Nøgne is one of my favorite brewing companies. You know you get quality with them. And this is a solid porter.

(Bottled, Brewed July 3rd, 2006) Very dark reddish brown color with a medium, foamy, beige head. Strong, bittersweet, licorice-chocolatey aroma with some ashy and alcoholic notes. Dry and ashy, quite malty, coffeeish flavor with licorice hints. Long, bitter and dry-ashy aftertaste. Slicky-oily, slightly rough, medium to full-bodied palate with medium carbonation. A very nice, balanced and enjoyable porter. Quite close to the Koff Porter - yet easier to drink, since it’s not as dry and bitter.

This bottle of Nøgne Ø Porter was picked up during my last visit to Green’s. When uncapped, the beer formed a rapidly rising head in the bottle, but the quickness of my hands avoided any spillage. In my imperial pint glass, this formed a four finger tall beige head, which looked in stark contrast to the deep black color of the body. The hefty roastiness of the aroma indicated that this was going to be forceful porter, the kind of drink the vikings would have enjoyed before going on a berserk raid in an alternate brewing universe. Coffee and chocolate were everywhere in the nose. The taste was sharp yet soft as the astringent taste and silky body rubbed shoulders in the same glass. I did not get much of the dried fruit flavors that were mentioned on the back label, but coffee and toffee were definitely abundant. Slight sourness in the aftertaste, and a hint of bitter cocoa lingered on. Some brashness in the mouthfeel from the roast grain, but it was right at home in the style. Well done imported porter, which is not the typical case.

Intense yet smooth roast flavour with some coffee, black colour. Some quality bittersweet dark chocolate. Also malt and licorice. Good porter, not complex yet satisfying pint, well carbonated, fresh from Norway thanks to trade with Madsberg.
