3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 VTHopHead (1340) - Barre, Vermont, USA - JAN 22, 2012
Bottle/500ml - Pours a very dark black/brown in color with a small tan head. Some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is coffee and chocolate... and a bit of smoke. Flavor is slightly bitter... from the hops and the very dark malts (black patent). Nice chocolate in the finish... I really like this!

Pours with a thick brown head atop a very deep, dark brown body. Earthy aroma contains notes of cocoa, roasted nuts, and a slight twinge of pine needles. Flavor is initially chocolate and nutty sweetness, quickly taken over by bitter espresso and pine with a dry finish. It’s rare in my experience for a brew to do both sweet and bitter/dry so well, without the flavors becoming muddied. A top notch porter.

1 pint .9 oz bottle acquired in trade (Mystery Swap v2) with Dickinsonbeer (thanks Paul!). Poured a dark, dark brown (almost black) color with a large sized tan head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, vanilla, wood, and coffee. Nice smelling Porter. Tastes of chocolate, roast, light caramel, and some coffee. Tastes a tad of a let down compared to the nice full aroma. Smooth body with the alcohol hidden. Lacing left on the glass.

Bomber poured black with a thick and creamy tan head. Real good lacing. Aroma of coffee chocolate and roasted malts. The taste ahhhh, full mouth feel with real good roasted coffee and chocolate, toffee and cream. An excellent porter.

Bottle at Novare.
Pours supremely dark brown not much light getting through this guy! Aroma is super sweet, chocolate, coffee, and molasses. Flavor is very nice upfront tastes like brown sugar and molasses, as it recedes it becomes a little more complex with a more bitter flavor of coffee and chocolate. Super smooth mouthfeel. This one is a very robust porter, reminds me of baltic porters i’ve had...dare i say it almost could have an imperial in its name and i wouldn’t bat an eye.

Opaque, absolutely black with a thick, brown head (too dark historically). Beautiful sweetness and soft, dark fruit coupled with some fresh brewed coffee in the background. This beer is screaming that it is an imperial stout already. Flavor has the malt/hop balance of an english brown porter with its seductive, soft palate and solid bitterness that promotes drinkability. Good, dark fruit flavor combines with a touch of sweetness, some unroasty, dark malt flavors (this is good) and a smack of bitterness that shows itself profoundly then allows the yeast and malt to shine into a lengthy finish. After drinking this I was highly anticipating their Imperial Stout.

My bottle (500ml), shared with tupalev. Pours black with ruby hues and a good size lasting light-brown head. Nice aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit, chocolate and coffee. Flavour of roasted malt, roasted coffee, and dark chocolate. Short dry finish. Alcohol’s well hidden. Medium bodied, somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Great Porter, incredibly easy to drink.
