3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Muggus69 (854) - Newcastle, NSW, AUSTRALIA - MAY 20, 2009
500ml bottle. Batch 396 Bottled 24.11.08 BB 24.11.13
Served with only a slight chill.
Pours a dense, medium-sized, tan head atop a near-opaque black body.
Big rich, bold malt aroma. Dark chocolate, strong milky coffee, toffee, dark and dried fruits, liquorice, rum. Hint of spice and herbaceous hop.
Body is beautifully creamy, almost velvet-like, moderate carbonation with a lengthy oily consistency. Astringencies are well rounded.
Plenty more dark chocolate and coffee on the body. Notes of date, nuts, sultana, and toffee. Finishes with a slight spice (possibly alcohol?), some bread and grain dryness, and a lingering bitter note.
Very nice porter indeed. Smooth, rich, satisfying, hard to fault.

500ml bottle. Pours normal porter brown/black with a large foamy tan ocean of a head that sticks around. Aroma is scotch tape and smoke at first but then fades into a nice creamy chocolate smell. Very nice milk chocolate aroma akin to Bell’s Kalamazoo. Some smokiness resides making it unique. Smells smooth and creamy. Taste is chocolatey, lightly bitter, subdued roastiness. Mouthfeel is creamy and soft though watery, to a fault though just barely. A little flat maybe. Incredibly drinkable. This is a good porter.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BINGEBOT (236) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 4, 2007
This beer is the ideal Porter style. Look "porter" up in the beer dictionary and this is what you see (and taste). Dark, smooth, thick, chocolate, hints of sweet fruit and nuts. Not the most complex beer, but who’s asking for complex when you have such a high quality and consistent porter. Wow.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2009 500 ml. Opaque brown-black, with a medium head. Chocolate coffee aroma. Flavor is cocoa, earthy wood, coffee and slight smoke. Medium body is roasty-dry and sometimes a bit too frothy.

bottle. deep brown pour with a big fizzy tan head that never goes away completely. sweet coffee, bread and milk smells. little thinner than I was expecting (for some unknown reason) - but still had a chewy quality to it. tastes of dark fruits, toasted malts, dark chocolate and soy. interesting. not sure I’ve had a porter like this before. probably more complex than any I’ve had before - but maybe wouldn’t be dying to try again. K-8

From a 500 ml bottle, this was the fourth beer sampled at Cellar’s Nøgne Ø on Friday. Pours a dark mahogany brew with a thin tan head. Aroma of sweet roasted malt barley, caramel, some milk chocolate and bread dough yeast. Not much hop presence in aroma. Taste is semi-sweet, fruity, and some raspberry/coffee. A slight bitter aftertaste. Very good porter.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Kestral (487) - Årnes, NORWAY - OCT 5, 2009
Pours black with reddish brown highlights, a thick light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, espresso coffee, bitter, dark chocolate, dried dark fruits. Nicely balanced flavour, much the same as the aroma, with some nuts, vanilla and vague smoke, with a nice hop bitterness in the finish, quite dry. Solid porter.
