3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 NachlamSie (2077) - Tennessee, USA - JUN 13, 2007
Bottle split with Muenster. Pours black with some ruby tints. Head is a little small and tan. The aroma is hugely chewy and roasty. Lots of toasted notes up front, coffee, chocolate, toffee. Slightly ashy with a great earthiness in the flavor. Mouthfeel is right on. Actually, it dries out with a nutty finish. I like that. It’s a little grainy in the flavor, but still really good. The heavy roasted character and dark fruit sweetness pull everything together. I’m picking up some brown sugar, twigs, and a thin sourness. Very solid.

16.9oz bottle, no date. Black with brown edges and a 1/2 finger fading brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, earth, ash, lactose, and light molasses. Flavor is ashy and smoky with deeply roasted malts, moderate bitterness, light alcohol, anise, a bit of raisins and an ashy roasted malt finish. Low carbonation with a creamy medium body. Pretty good--for once I haven’t been let down by these guys.

50 cL bottle. Pours black with a dense light brown head. Roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Promise of a roasted and hops bitter flavour. Flavour is mild tar, light smoked, roasted malt and smooth chocolate following. Very smooth with liqourice added along the way. Light roasted bitterness following into a chocolate and roasted malt bitter finish. Very nice. One of the pre-RB beers I finally get to rate. Perfect for boiling vegetables in the owen, carrots for instance. Seriously!

500ml bottle, batch No. 60 from Feb.04 (bb.22.02.2007). Ruby black coloured. Brownish head mostly diminishing but leaving nice filigranes on the glass. Appealing roasted malty aroma. Well rounded flavour with a solid taste of dark burnt chocolate. Nice bittersweet aftertaste. Very good after more than a year in the cellar.

Bottle. [thank you, faroeviking]
Pours black with slight brown edges. A big, dense, creamy, light-brown head. Great duration. Aroma is sweet, good chocolate, some roastiness. Softly carbonated with a general nice creaminess - but seems a little thin. Flavour has lots of sweet, fat chocolate with a good roasted coffe note in the aftertaste. Some bitterness as well. Good porter!

Bottle. Bountiful dark chocolate aroma, very nutty with a good amount of toffee and even more roast. Sticky ripe fruits there, too, with some milk chocolate and malted milk balls. Opaque black pour, even under light, with a gorgeous lacing, rocky, creamy tanned/light brown head.
Robust, very dry roast flavor, strongly nutty with slight breadiness and hefty chocolate. Faint tongue-prickling, probably from the Centennial. Faint hint of salty licorice. Smooth and silken, but very thin-bodied, almost watery at times. Aftertaste is dry and slightly salty, lots of nutty roast and slight, dark warmth. Solid, repeatable porter - but just barely misses out on Greatness.

Glad to see this in NC. Pours a dark black (really dark for a porter) and shows a little light around the edges. The head is medium, tan, creamy. The aroma shows roasted coffee and chocolate immediately, sweet, light alcohol. Malt predominant. The hops don’t show until you taste it and then only barely. Tastes sweet, some molasses/brown sugar, roasted chocolate and coffee again, light light alcohol, some mild hop bitterness at the back of the mouth. Smooth roasted palate that finishes nicely. Excellent porter.

Bottle shared by sliffy at the PTFC. Dark brown pour with a tan head. Aroma of chovcolate, roasted malt and coffee. The flavor had some nice roastiness with both chocolate and coffe coming out. The body was smooth but a bit thin as well. Overall though it was a nice offering.
