oured from the tap into a pint glass The color is a dark black with some maroon highlights and about two fingers of foamy brownish head and some nice lacing left on the glass. The smell is roasty with a little dry malt aroma. There is some dark chocolate aroma in the nose that has a coffee roast like aroma too. The taste is roasted malt and is filled with a nice dry chocolate flavor that sets back a bit to hang with a coffee flavor that mixes with some nice toast burnt flavor. The feel of this beer is complex but smooth as it goes down with ease and has a silky aftertaste that is more enjoyable then a lot of Porters I have had. This one is one of the better ones.

500ml bottle served in a tulip glass. A: Pours a dark brown color forming a solid and creamy tan head. Great retention and lots of spotty lingering lacings formed and left in the glass S: Delicious roasted malts, coffee and chocolate notes. A bit sweet and a bit metallic too. Strong notes of floral hops. Great balance. A bit booze T : Follows the nose. Slightly sweet upfront. Excellent notes of roasted malts. Notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Great bitter-sweet balance. Nice bitter sting in the end. Bitterness is mainly made of roasted malts but also mixed with grassy hops. A bit of metallic sensation. Brown bread yeasts profile M: Creamy full bodied beer. Medium carbonation. Bittersweet roasted aftertaste O: Great drinkability. Excellent beer. Extremely well-done. Scandinavian classic [ BA Review @ 11/8/2013 ]

Bottle. Brewtique, Macclesfield. Clear, dark ruby red. Halo of tan head. Chocolate raisins. Cocoa powder. Light smoke. Taste is bonfire toffee sweet. Ashy dry. Light bitter. Palate is smooth, rich, although a little over carbonated. Finishes ashy dry, and cocoa sweet.

Kjøpt på vinmonopolet på Hønefoss. Svart med høyt lys brunt skum. Lukter søt lakris og litt kaffe. Smak av kaffe og sjokolade med en lang og søt avslutning.

A gift left over from a previous tasting, the Nogne Porter has held up well for the couple of months that it lingered. That said, I would not try to cellar it for too long or the flavors are likely to break down. Drink it fresh and you’ll experience a nice European interpretation of the style.

Aroma / Appearance - A fluid black base creeps from bottle to glass with a lazy motion. Reddish edges and a smooth cocoa head add nice contrast. After just a few seconds little head remains. Raspberry, chocolate, coffee, and ash waft upwards with a focus.

Flavor / Palate - The bubbly mouthfeel tastes like a melted truffle reformed into a ball. Both sweet and dry, the texture transitions to a smoky finish. The coffee taste binds together the other flavors from the first sip to the final drop. An affordable import provided a good opportunity to reacquaint myself with Nogne’s skills.

On tap at la cerveteca Barcelona. Aroma has chocolate coffee and hops. Small dense off white head. Taste has chocolade and hops. Nice but palate shows too much co2. That doesnt make it eaay to drnk

Bottle from Stockmann in Tallinn (€ 5,95), Sept 2014; BB 28.05.2016; batch 975. Pours a dark mahogany brown, while appearing black in the glass, with a tan head that retains and laces nicely. Nose is deep coffee roastiness, dark plums and some nice Centennial coming through. Taste is roasty and somewhat chocolaty with a mild hoppy bitterness in the background. Body is around medium, carbonation very low, texture somewhat oily, finish dry and malty. Definitely a good one, but somehow fails to impress...

It has beautiful aroma of dark chocolate and tanned bread’s skin. It’s pitch black, non-transparent, with huge head. I think it’s a little bit over-carbonated. It looks so and gives the mouth feeling as well. Except that, in the mouth it’s super smooth, thick and dense. In taste it’s also chocolate, a bit malty, with dark tanned bread notes. It’s perfectly balanced. Leaves strong, dark and bitter aftertaste. Great porter!
