3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 12, 2013
My Bottom Line:
This Heller Bock’s doughy yeast and sugary cereals lazily greet herbal hops and their bitterness.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the hazy golden. There is lots of yeast in the bottle; pouring carefully is important, otherwise the pils malt flavors get smothered.
-The soft carbonation feels natural.
-Alcohol warmth isn’t necessary.
-Overall, I feel like this is not compelling enough to be drunk as a sipper, and it’s far from refreshing too.
-Flavor definition is not optimal; I wonder if the longevity of this beer, as indicated on the bottle, is exaggerated.
-I guess ’Imperial Pilsner’ sells better than ’Heller Bock’ outside Germany?
Bottle.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Maris (754) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - MAR 22, 2013
From a 500ml bottle (batch number 834, BB 6/7/14). Pours a slightly cloudy light golden with a medium head. Has a distinct aroma of tart apple with some honey in the mix as well. The flavour is primarily apple and sweet citrus fruit, with some bready malt and Belgian yeast, followed by a touch of warming alcohol and a medium lingering bitterness. Wasn’t expecting it to be so sweet based on the aroma, but this is heading into dessert beer territory. That said, it’s amazingly easy to down for a 9per center. The palate is slick and the carbonation medium. All up, a very enjoyable imperial pils.
2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 maneliquor (1564) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAR 15, 2013
Bottle from Mane Liquor. This beer is not my thing. Don’t know what it is but this was just boring, flavourless and too boozy. Not great stuff and thats rare for Nogne O
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Cunningham (2972) - Halden, NORWAY - MAR 6, 2013
Appearance: Cloudy golden, or light hazy golden color if you do not pour all the bottom sediments into the glass. Small off white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma: Yeast, fruity, wheat and light citric. Palate: Medium pluss body. Slightly sweet, and a fine bitterness. Average carbonation. Taste: Slightly sweet malty, fruity and wheat. Well hidden alcohol. Overall impression: Feels like a german hefeweize. Just better. Nice well balanced powerbeer. Personal stats: Bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika in Oslo, Norway.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Rastacouere (6045) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 4, 2013
Clearish medium-dark gold covered by a minimal white slice of foam. Grain-focused nose in which the strong alcohol is never too intrusive. Herbal, minimally spicy, gently green hops provide a fair counterpoint, but otherwise, its concentrated pils malts that thrive and as you would imagine, the bright and fresh typical pils malt pleasure gets partly lost when you cram so much of it per ounce. Somehow though, beyond the stronger alcohol (especially in mouth and post-taste), the sweetness is never exagerated and in fact remains well under control, the concentration focusing on cerealic, grainy, hay-like nuances, the texture certainly having a slight oily kick, but never feeling thick or fatiguing, the engaging carbonation doing a fair job at drying out the ensemble. Fair beer, certainly well brewed, in the lineage of a strong maibock, but neither refreshing nor complex nor particularly focused on great flavors and thus a bit purposeless in Nogne O’s great lineup.

50 cl bottle from Vinmonopolet CC Vest. Batch 834. 9.5% ABV. Pours extreme murky yellow, excatly like freshly mashed apple juice. Cool. Small off white head that leaves a good lacing. Aroma and taste of yeast, caramel, lime. Full bodied, slick texture, lively carbonation. Good one and 9.5% abv is very well hidden. Cool and stange one. Not sure if the style descritption is correct on this one. More like a belgian wit
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 SlovakSniper (2123) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 2, 2013
Une bouteille de 50 cl. Batch 834.

500ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique. Now this is how a pilsener should be. Bright sunrise orange colour with a minimum of foam that stays close to the edge of the glass. Spritzy aroma with a great big full flavour that almost numbs the mouth.
