COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brewed this ale only with the famous sake yeast No. 7 from Masumi Sake in Nagano, Japan. On advice from Masumi’s master brewers we fermented this ale very slowly at low temperatures to bring out No. 7’s fabulously fruity character. This is a beer, but has some flavors found in a sake. A great combination!

A hazed amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with yeast extract, umami, and floral hops. In mouth, sweet candy sugar with herbal hop, iodine, savoury umami, licorice, and sake alcohol burn.

On tap @ La Capsule, Lille - FR. Color: strong red brown beer with small carbonization and medium brown head. Smell: malt, grapefruit, great complexity of sugar. Taste: strong complexity of red fruits as raspberry, blueberry and raisin, good taste of malt. Aftertaste: dry bitterness sensation and grapefruit.

25 cL bottle from Beverages 4 Less in Santee CA, served in a stem glass. Pours hazy reddish copper with a few bubbles but no head. The nose has big notes of caramel, molasses, fruit and subtle hops. The flavour is drier than expected from the nose, with elegant malts, brown sugar, fruit and flowers. It closes with a long, malty finish. On the palate, it is medium in body with a smooth, syrupy texture and flat carbonation. Overall, an excellent strong ale quite reminiscent of a barley wine. Very tasty. 2013-03-02

Nice beer, the sake yeast really does have a very fruity and unique nose, some in the taste but a little harder to find in the sweetness. Abv is well covered, overall an interesting, big and very well done brew.

(Bottle) Amber colour, slightly hazy, with brief frothy beige head. Fruity nose with dried fruit, orange peel, caramel, apricots, resin and slightly earthy, yeasty aromas emerging. Quite vinous. Fruity taste with notes of orange, citrus peel, dried fruit, apricots, caramel and generous amounts of resinous hops in a sweet and fiery finish with lots of warming alcohol. Full body, quite sweet with a long alcohol burn. Subtle is not really the word here. Quite powerful, but actually quite nice for sipping on a cold winter’s night.

Excellent piece of brewing here, and I suppose it serves its purpose (whatever that may be). 2nd time having this, seems a bit hot this time around, last time seemed like it did a better job of hiding the alcohol. Big ricey barley wine.

Shared by ygtbsm94. Thanks a lot, Brad! The beer is transparent and orange hued with no head and no lace. Mkay... The aroma is minty, sweet, fruity, herbal, grassy. The flavor follows suit, with a pronounced mint presence. Sweet and boozy with a throat-warming finish. That said, the beer isn’t super hot or messy, just strong. At 17% abv, a couple of ounces is all you need. Worth a try. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-29-2012
