2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
0.25 L bottle from Bieropholie, cool, tulip. Hazy deep amber with no head. Rich and pungent, fruity, spicy, boozy, peppery, very malty, savory, salty caramel. Medium plus body, very relaxed effervescence. Big and punishing, so much alcohol, quite peppery and savory, bad booze, grassy? I guess there is some sake character; big and very boozy.

25 cL bottle from Beverages 4 Less in Santee CA, served in a stem glass. Pours hazy reddish copper with a few bubbles but no head. The nose has big notes of caramel, molasses, fruit and subtle hops. The flavour is drier than expected from the nose, with elegant malts, brown sugar, fruit and flowers. It closes with a long, malty finish. On the palate, it is medium in body with a smooth, syrupy texture and flat carbonation. Overall, an excellent strong ale quite reminiscent of a barley wine. Very tasty. 2013-03-02

Nice beer, the sake yeast really does have a very fruity and unique nose, some in the taste but a little harder to find in the sweetness. Abv is well covered, overall an interesting, big and very well done brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Bottle) Amber colour, slightly hazy, with brief frothy beige head. Fruity nose with dried fruit, orange peel, caramel, apricots, resin and slightly earthy, yeasty aromas emerging. Quite vinous. Fruity taste with notes of orange, citrus peel, dried fruit, apricots, caramel and generous amounts of resinous hops in a sweet and fiery finish with lots of warming alcohol. Full body, quite sweet with a long alcohol burn. Subtle is not really the word here. Quite powerful, but actually quite nice for sipping on a cold winter’s night.

Excellent piece of brewing here, and I suppose it serves its purpose (whatever that may be). 2nd time having this, seems a bit hot this time around, last time seemed like it did a better job of hiding the alcohol. Big ricey barley wine.
