COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We brewed this ale only with the famous sake yeast No. 7 from Masumi Sake in Nagano, Japan. On advice from Masumi’s master brewers we fermented this ale very slowly at low temperatures to bring out No. 7’s fabulously fruity character. This is a beer, but has some flavors found in a sake. A great combination!

Got this in my very first trade ever, IP in Norway. Big thanks to Mr. Erik for introducing me to trading, and giving me this bad boy. Pour a murky hazy deep n’ dark orange (brown), with a very small white head. Aroma of leather, malt, slight smoke/roast, sake(?), caramel, alcohol, dark fruits, banana, basement, old leafs.. A lot of funny stuff going on.. (something green as well) The taste is sweet up front, with a long and slightly bitter aftertaste. Quite some heat in the throat, but nothing that wasn’t expected. Oily and quite sticky body, with a surprisingly fizzy carbonation. This sure is some funny stuff...

Bottle sample at Beoir Go Leoir. Sweet butterscotch, dried fruits, and spiced orange, and boozy aroma. Cloudy orange with no head. Sweet caramel, honey, spice orange, strong clove, and hot boozy flavor. Full sticky body, flat carbonation.

Bottled. Almost looks like dark honey, no head. The aroma is very much honey-like, quite identical to some better miod pitny (honey mead) found in Poland. The taste is more like a nordic mead, with freshness of lemons and other citrus. It’s surprisingly sparkly considering the lack of head. The finish could be a bit more exciting, currently it’s more alcohol than fruits.

From bottle. It pours rich golden, slightly hazy with a minimal white head. Aroma is big sweet with peaches, mango and ripen fruits. Taste is again mostly sweet with big fruity notes and slight alcohol. Good stuff indeed.

0.25 L bottle from Bieropholie, cool, tulip. Hazy deep amber with no head. Rich and pungent, fruity, spicy, boozy, peppery, very malty, savory, salty caramel. Medium plus body, very relaxed effervescence. Big and punishing, so much alcohol, quite peppery and savory, bad booze, grassy? I guess there is some sake character; big and very boozy.

25 cL bottle from Beverages 4 Less in Santee CA, served in a stem glass. Pours hazy reddish copper with a few bubbles but no head. The nose has big notes of caramel, molasses, fruit and subtle hops. The flavour is drier than expected from the nose, with elegant malts, brown sugar, fruit and flowers. It closes with a long, malty finish. On the palate, it is medium in body with a smooth, syrupy texture and flat carbonation. Overall, an excellent strong ale quite reminiscent of a barley wine. Very tasty. 2013-03-02
