3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 stunetii (90) - Bergen, NORWAY, NORWAY - MAR 3, 2011
Breaking open the bottle and pouring a glass full reveals the ale’s opaque golden color, amazingly well retained head and commendable level of carbonation. The appearance is accompanied by a decent aroma, with hints spices and fruits – notably citrus. The taste is similar to the nose, with a medium body peppered by a complexity of fruity sweetness and herbal tastes and a somewhat dry mouth feel. The sweetness continues through to the finish, transitioning into a lingering bitterness.

Bottle 500ml. Batch nr 548. Pours golden on a large white head, bottled conditioned, and I didn’t let it stay long enough, so it got a little cloudy as well (I don’t mind). Aroma of yeast and soft malt, rich. Taste is rich and works very well with food, had it to sushi.

On tap at Sail and Anchor. Pours a hazy yellow with a medium, frothy white head. Has some citrus aromas with a spicey wheat backing. Notes of corriander. Has a slightly sour taste to it. Follows with corriander spice with notes of orange peel and banana. Late caramel flavours popping up. Strong carbonation, yet soft. Good brew. Nogne O are getting better and better

500 ml bottle. Served in a tulip glass, the beer pours a hazy straw gold color with an inch and a half frothy white head. Head retention is good, and there’s a lot of lacing left on the glass. Aroma is lemon peel, wheat, coriander and a bit of banana. Smells more like a witbier than a saison, but with that being said it is a nice aroma. It tastes like wheat, lemon peel, pear, peppery spice and also a bit of an earthy taste. I think it tastes like a mix of a saison and a wit. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s well carbonated. Drinkability is good, the soft carbonation and the smoothness of this beer makes it easy to drink. I think it’s a good overall brew, I thought it was nice and refreshing. Another good Nøgne Ø brew.

Very pale straw-golden pour. The flavour is softly spicy. A nice, light zestiness along with a kiss of lemon peel as well. Fairly fruity aroma with a little bit of light zesty spice. Very light palate and a spice in here is somewhat restrained. I get a kiss of wheaty character out of this as well. Soft and a little tart but it’s plenty refreshing. The yeast actually comes across a little bit like Hennepin’s - which certainly isn’t a bad thing. Slightly doughy aroma - despite the dryness.
