3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ChoppingMall (47) - Sleepy Hollow, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 14, 2011
Norwegian saison, who knew. And wow... it’s tasty. A lot of phenolic flavors going on in this one. Flowers, spice box, tree roots, cloves, lavender, strawberries, cedar, all sorts of crazy tastes in this beer. It’s no Fantome or DuPont, though. Unlike any saison I’ve had. Lacks the hops & dryness I normally expect from this style. Interesting. The bottle’s about a year old, I wonder how different it would be if it were a bit more fresh.

Pale, hazy yellow colour with thin, lacy white head. Aromas of lemon. Tangy lemon taste with some yeastiness..

500 ml bottle into tulip, no dating. Pours hazy golden amber color with 1-2 fingers of a dense white head with great retention that reduces to a thin lacing cap. Some nice lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of big pepper, spices, clove, grape, apple, grass, and a bit of funk. Very nice and standard saison aromas. Taste of big spices, pepper, bread, funk, apple, and grass. A lot of spice in the taste with lingering notes of spice, pepper, and a bit of funk on the finish with some bitterness. Decent balance of flavors, but I was hoping for more fruit in the taste. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied. A bit of a creamy mouthfeel that drinks very smoothly as well. Overall, a solid saison offering.

On keg at Bacchus, Newcastle. Pours a blonde colour with a fair white head. Aroma of lemon, saison yeast, orange rind, white pepper and grass. Flavours similar, quite grassy with lemon citrus and orange rind again. Crisp, clean and fast finish. A little thin but very nice.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Vignale (783) - Malmö, SWEDEN - AUG 30, 2011
En relativt snäll Saison. Jag saknar både kryddning, syrlighet, friskhet och spänst. Med det sagt är det ett riktigt hyfsat öl. Lite wit-liknande karaktär, lättdrucken och frisk.

50cl bottle. Pours a hazy lemon colour with a thin layer of lace on top - it seems to have surface tension and texture. The nose has a lemon, maybe pineapple sorbet. The taste has tangy orange, then yoghurt on the end. The palate is medium to big in structure, then a long dry yeasty finish. Overall, this is a good effort at a saison, a style I like.

50 cl bottle. Batch 619.

Pours cloudy mead-like yellow colour with medium head. Aroma is citrus, fresh pine needles, grass, some bitter soapiness, herbal notes and fruits. A distinct belgian yeast in the flavor also. Flavour is citrus, mild spices, some syrupy sweetness but not too sweet. Palate is highly carbonated, refreshing and light-bodied. Very balanced and enjoyable summer beverage with triple-like base.

Great looking beer, light orange body with a huge white head. Smells a bit disappointing, with mostly some white bread and pear, but skunky. Tastes loads better, nice build up from fruity to a long mild bitter and very pleasant finish. Good mouthfeel, maybe little bit too carbonated. Since this is very low quantity import it?s very expensive here. Happy I tried though. (50cl bottle, 5,00 EUR)
