Bottle 500ml batch #570. Pours a slightly hazy yellow with frothy white head. Aroma of citric fruits, yeast, lemon grass notes. Taste is light sour, light bitter light sweet. Light body, thin to oily, average carbonation. This is such a refreshing beer. Waiting for the summer just so I can enjoy this with fresh seafood at the harbour. 13042011

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Acetobacter (816) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 2, 2011
Enjoyed from a 16.9oz bottle in a stemless wine glass. The beer pours a nice medium yellow color, with a moderate white head. The nose is initially a bit unpleasant, showing grainy notes mixed with an unnamed aroma. However, as the beer warms, pleasant notes of lemongrass, southern hemisphere spices, and citrus come through. The palate reveals a well-brewed and conceived saison; light spice and lemon up front, a slight malt character in the mid-palate, and a dry finish. Mouthfeel and carbonation are appropriate to style. Overall, a very enjoyable example that, perhaps as an apt indication of this enigmatic style, takes its time to reveal its true beauty.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 talon1117 (1011) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAR 30, 2011
The beer pours a hazy, golden color with a mostly full, white, creamy, foamy head which settles to a rocky foam an leaves soapy lace. The nose is herbal (jasmine), floral, a bit perfumey, some light candi sugar, coriander, and apricot fruity esters. The flavor is all the same, coriander, jasmine, apricot esters, and some clove to match candi sugar notes. The palate is silky, lightly quenching, drying, nearly medium, and soft to lively. The beer finishes dry, still very herbal, and filled with coriander. The bitterness never got above light to medium and the acidity was light. While not what I would call a traditional saison with a lower bitterness and less acidity, but all flavors worked in balance. The best aspects of the beer were the incredibly smooth palate and the delicate nature of the beer. Nice offering from an incredible brewery but not my favorite saison.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Blairgus (1019) - California, USA - MAR 7, 2011
i should mention that this is perhaps my second saison so i’m still getting my head around the style
light/bright yellow, faintly hazy, few steady bubbles
nose is vegetably w/ lemon citrus background
medium body and mostly flat
some spicy notes and barnyard hay. interesting. need to have more of these.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 SDalkoholic (1490) - Chula Vista, California, USA - MAR 6, 2011
Bottle from South Bay Drugs: Another bottle from Nogne O that once the cap is popped off all of the beer starts exploding like a volcano, and don’t tell me I didn’t let the bottle sit because it has been in my refrigerator for three weeks now. Anyways, the aroma is easy to sniff out since I have a full pint glass, my table, my tile floor, and sheet of notes covered with this beer. Nose detects a spicy strain of Belgian yeast, alcohol, clove, and grainy bread like scent. The flavor has either become a bit flat or is just naturally low in carbonation, but it will make up for this flaw by the tangy acidic and zesty spiciness of the yeast used and the upfront whole wheat bread. There is some background of cinnamon and earth in the aftertaste which makes this a decent saison.
