Sour Brown is a brown ale which has spent 9 months on oak barrels. These barrels typically have lots of funny microbes hidden deep inside the wood. These do weird things with beer over time. This beer is slightly sour and refreshing. Have it with your favourite veggies or aged cheeses. Serve at 8 degrees C.

Bravo for the experiment but I’m not convinced the style lends itself to this treatment. Which is not to say this doesn’t point in interesting directions. The lavish head shows good length. Impenetrable body of the darkest brown. Interesting aroma of leather, acetone, sour cherries, horse blanket - one for the true connoisseurs of sour ales, amongst whom I cannot count myself. Thin bodied and dry. Acidic. The best I can say about this is that it tastes exactly like you might imagine a sour brown ale would taste - like an accountant breaking bad, but not bad enough to pay much attention. (250ml bottle from Leura Cellars)

Bottle. Deep, deep brown verging on black with a frothy cappuccino coloured head. Dominant wood aromas, with apple cider, vinegar, leather and barnyard. Initial citrus sourness that leads into the familiar brown ale flavours of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt mid palate. The sourness is intertwined throughout, although the beer ends with a dry roastiness. Carbonation normal for a sour but weird for a brown. I didn't mind the beer as a whole, but not convinced a brown ale lends itself to the wild yeast thing.

Deep, cloudy chestnut brown color, light brown head. Complex aromas containing sour berries, caramel, chocolate, wood, spice, licorice and dried fruit. Deep malty and vinous notes. Fruity and sour taste, chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, dry finish. Medium body, lively carbonation.

Pours dark brown with big fluffy tan head. I poured it fairly cold and the aroma started out full of cola sweetness and funk. Some plastic. As it warmed some nutty aromas and drak chocolate came through. Taste is smooth with a quick jab of bitterness which is taken over by sour apple.

250 ml bottle. Copper color with off white head. Aroma of smoke, peat, sour notes and some barny notes. Taste is light sour, smoke, not a lot of brett notes and light roasted notes in the finish.

Dark brown pour, tan head with little to no retention. Aromas are sweet caramel malts, balanced pretty good with some wild yeasty sourness. Taste starts of with an initial sourness with some bitterness to it, gliding over into a smooth brown ale with some roast coffee notes. Ends of in a mild dark/bitter chocolate.

Hazy brown, with persistent beige head. Good aroma of dry chocolate and black malt. Dry and slightly sour taste, aftertaste and mouthfeel, with hints of dark caramel.

Dark, brown-reddish colour. Slightly sour aroma. Malty taste, but sourness predominates. Generally light taste and well drinkable.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours dirty dark brown with a tiny khaki head. Nose is quite funky and very woody with a nice vinous feel to it - distinct vibrant berries. Possibly black cherry and red grapes. Works a treat. Taste is more woody and sour with dark fruits and some berry tang. Kind of tarty. Works nicely. Solid stuff

Brunt sølevann med lys brunt skum. Sure bær og rødvinseddiklukt. Syrlie sure bær som rips. Smaken kommer fort og er ganske snerpende i starten før den legger seg å blir veldig behagelig sur mot slutten.
