Sour Brown is a brown ale which has spent 9 months on oak barrels. These barrels typically have lots of funny microbes hidden deep inside the wood. These do weird things with beer over time. This beer is slightly sour and refreshing. Have it with your favourite veggies or aged cheeses. Serve at 8 degrees C.

25 cl bottle from Vinmonopolet. Batch 760. Pours deep brown with a large large fluffy brown head. A bit sour aroma with notes of wood. Light body, soft carbonation and a bit sour woody taste to this strange beer.

Classic sour one with some acidity and berries in the background. Easily drinkable, refreshing, thirstquenching special. Not a bad one to start off an evening.

Bottle from Meilby - thank you, Kenni! The beer has got a deep brown colour with an low airy head and medium body. Aroma of malt and oak with some acid hints. Taste of light roasted malt, light mild vinegar, mild acid, woods, oak and barley. Vineous hints with some touch of prune. Good and solid Sour Ale.

250ml Bottle (Thanks Cunningham) - Dark brown with red tinges. Oak, cherries, raisins and some musty notes in the aroma. Tart, fruity and slightly roasted taste with notes of raisins, blackcurrant, cherries and fruitcake. Some notes of cherry cola can be detected in the finish. Quite complex and tart, yet one of the more ’accessible’ ’serious’ sour beers I have had.

Bottle. Slightly sour aroma with dark fruits, oak, roast. Taste is woody, vineous, fruity hops, pleasant sourness. Clean and roasty finish with a tickling sourness. Not amongst Nøgnes most exciting beers, nor is it among the best sours, but a 5% sour in a 25cl bottle is really perfect, would love to see this back in production.

Bottle. Deep, deep brown verging on black with a frothy cappuccino coloured head. Dominant wood aromas, with apple cider, vinegar, leather and barnyard. Initial citrus sourness that leads into the familiar brown ale flavours of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt mid palate. The sourness is intertwined throughout, although the beer ends with a dry roastiness. Carbonation normal for a sour but weird for a brown. I didn't mind the beer as a whole, but not convinced a brown ale lends itself to the wild yeast thing.

Pours dark brown with big fluffy tan head. I poured it fairly cold and the aroma started out full of cola sweetness and funk. Some plastic. As it warmed some nutty aromas and drak chocolate came through. Taste is smooth with a quick jab of bitterness which is taken over by sour apple.
