COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To enhance the flavor of our Sunturnbrew, we aged it in bourbon barrels for a year. We think it was a good year!

Tap at North Bar, Leeds, for their 15th birthday party. A long time ago now, I know, but I found a note down the (metaphorical) back of the sofa, and realised there we’re tons of Nogne beers I have drunk but not rated yet. It was 1/3rd pint and I remember it being brown, smoky and full-bodied. Didn’t get the bourbon to be honest.

Gerbeer (1987) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 25, 2013
250 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a slight red tint. Almost no head. Aromas of smoke, dark fruit, roasted malts, and a little vanilla. Complex flavors: oily smoke, vinous wood, plums, and tobacco. Quite a bit of heat on the finish. Much better than the standard Sunturn as the smoke is very much toned done and other flavors come to play. Expensive.

Dark amber with a small head - sweet malt aroma with some vanilla and wood notes - good malt body with a lot of vanilla and wood, and with a subdued smoke the finish is lingering vanilla from the wood barrel - this was very good and the best of the sunturns in my taste

Countbeer (4709) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - AUG 21, 2013
Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: When opening this bottle it whistled (to me. Finaly somebody that recognises my beauty)! Dark orange to amber brown pour. A medium to lightly bigger creamy beige foamy head that changes or even disappears really slow. The body has a deep dark hazy brown colored appearance. Aroma is a very nice mix of smoke, bourbon, peat, red fruit like berries and some alcohol soaked cherries, roosvicee, floral and plant tones, liquorice wood and creamy sweet malts. Flavours are a nice mix of bourbon, red fruit, berries, cherries and some strawberry, alcohol, wood, peat, malts, spices, cream, bitters, light berry sour touch, some porridge and hay with alcohol drenched grains. Aftertaste is a mix of wood, spices, alcohol, red fruit/berries, grains and some bourbon. Low carbo, soft silky mouthfeel, full body and an oily texture. I like this stuff. Expensive but good.

GothGargoyle (1416) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 19, 2013
Cloudy darkish brown with a minimal beige head. Aroma is grapes, oak, leather, sandalwood, fig, rhubarb. Medium-light bodied, slightly acidic on the palate with some smoke and tannin as well as booze on the finish. Taste is dry whit wine, liquorice, oak, bourbon, fig, hickory, smoke, leather. Pretty tasty, would make a hell of a BBQ sauce.

Appearance is Hazy dark reddish/brown. Aroma is really good, alot of smoke, vinous, bourbon, red wine, chocolate and wood. A little disappointing medium mouthfeel and low carbonation. Little aftertaste of roasted malts, bourbon, wood, peated smoke, almost whiskey like. Overall: Nice beer. Big pluss for aroma, but also minus for taste and palate. Second edition will probably be awesome!

Quite sweet on the palate, but has a leatheriness about it that makes it work. Hides alcohol very well with little head. It’s a nice beer, but given the price tag it is one you only try once.

Bottle bought at Systembolaget in September 2012. Almost clear mahogany with a small head. Rather vinous with smoke, leather, bourbon and malt. Some spices in the finish. An ok one.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy deep brown color ale with a medium size dark brown foamy head with average retention and some light lacing. Aroma of peat smoked malt with some bourbon notes and quiet a bit of residual sugar notes. Taste is a sweet mix of caramelized malt with plenty of residual sugar and some bourbon notes with limited vanilla coming out with a heavy peat smoke finish. Body is full with limited filtration and medium carbonation with some warming alcohol notes discernable. This is a very intense experience with some complexity and limited drinkability (good idea to bottle this in nip size bottle). The bourbon notes might be a bit too straightforward and probably too much residual sugar kind of ruined what could have been abetter experience.
