3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, shared @ Three Boars in Edmonton. I hadn’t cared much for the original Sunturn Brew, which I had on tap in Champaign Illinois, so I was excited to see what barrel aging did to the base beer. I found that it did improve things overall, but underlying the vanilla sweetness added by the barrel character was a persistent phenolic quality in addition to the peatiness. Still, much more enjoyable than my first experience.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle shared by tom10101, thanks! pours cloudy dark brown with a minimal light beige head, some retention. peaty nose, slightly acrid red fruitiness, maple, some sweetness and slightly disturbing acidity, woodsy notes. soft carbonation, medium body - oily, peaty, cloying, slightly harsh grassy, lightly acidic and unbalanced finish. seems like a good use of barrel at first for its underwhelming barrel flavors but the acidity makes me think otherwise.. still.. not horrible

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cola brown with a creamy long lived cap floating on top. Wacky, wacky aroma. Heavy peat, notable alcohol, and just like the regular it has a noticeable medical element in the nose. Mmmmmm..... smoked Robitussin. Seems to be an underlining sourness here. Tar, smoke, sweetness, alcohol, other weird stuff. No beer taste like the Sunturnbrew! is it good??? maybe, is it completely bat shit waked out different? Yes.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle (250 ml). Thanks to kbudd19 for this one! Murky amber/brown with a small beige head and some lacing. Aroma is meaty with strong peated notes, red fruits, sweetness and bourbon. Taste is moderately to heavily sweet with acidic notes, peat, smoked, fruits, oak and light bourbon. Medium body. Poor balance. Too sweet. Disturbing acidic presence. Not one that I’ll buy again.

1.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from mane liquor. Pours a black with an off white head. Nose full of vanilla oak, red wine barrels and bourbon. Almost like half red wine half beer. More bourbon coming through in the taste. Peat smoke really firing up. Feeling the booze with this one. Hint of sweetness with this one. Really tastes like red wine fucking cool. Decent stuff ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
25 cl bottle from vinmonopolet. Pours black with a medium, small bubbled light brown head. Leaves some lacing.Nice smokey aroma with oak notes.
Flavor of smoke, oak, dark fruits. Soft carbonation, full body, not as complex as the original Sunturnbrew, but this is very drinkable and alcohol is very well hidden.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours a thick dark brown with a short 1cm head that quickly dissipates. Nose is very bourbon-esque oak and smoky-sweet peat. Taste is immediate bourbon, then caramel malt and sweet peat. Hints of raisins and vanilla. Bourbon is very upfront in sweetness but not hot. Nice wet bitterness to finish it off. Really adventurous beer, I dig!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAY 12, 2013 Bottle from Mane Liquor. Wowee this smells good. Pours a very dirty, gluggy, murky brown colour with a small off white head which pretty much disappears as soon as it was formed. Nose shows very sweet peat, bourbon jumps out at you. Loads of vanilla with hints of chocolate. Taste personifies the bourbon ageing. Huge bourbon and vanilla characteristics with light milk chocolate. Peat is in the background without overpowering anything. Finishes like a mild cigar leaving that smokey aftershock on your palate. Superb depth. Creamy mouth feel with only a touch of heat. Damn sensational beer
