3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. I am kind of nervous about this before opening it. While I like sweet and boozy beers, I thought the regular 3rd Edition was pretty sweet on its own. Pours with a thick, essential black body with a slightly thinner brown head than the other two versions. Aromas of cocoa, dusty, earthy, rich chocolate, dry and spicy coffee, dark fruits, leather, vanilla. A bit of blood and metal. Cake. A bit bitter. Flavors of strong lactose (milk sugar), chocolate, leather and roasty, earthy coffee. Its pretty sweet, but not cloying. A hint of pencil shavings in the long duration. Hmm. Chocolate syrup and white pepper. Interesting. Pretty decadent.
Really syrupy and thick mouthfeel. Creamy carbonation. While I could drink an entire bottle of both the Third Edition and the Red Horizon, this bottle feels like a challenge (even at 8.5 oz). Maybe its the onslaught of calories.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
250ml bottle. Black colour with a small brown head. Notes of sweet and roasted malts, fruits (plums and raisins), chocolate, coffee and alcohol. Heavy sweetness and moderate bitterness in the flavour and a dry, bitter finish. Full-bodied with a oily texture and very soft carbonation. A bit too sweet for me, but nevertheless very good!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to the Norwegian contingent. Black pour with very little carbonation, not a shocker. Sweet, very sweet. Licorice, vanilla, cream, and caramel. Brown sugar, roasted malt, and a touch of ash. A touch of coffee. Flavors of fudge, vanilla, brown sugar, cream, and caramel. Some roasted malt, licorice, coffee, and a hint of smoke. Not surprisingly, some booze, too.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Now, Finally it’s my turn to have a go at this.
Pour murky very dark brown, with no head at all.
Aroma is sugary sweet, molasses, vanilla, light burnt sugar slight dark fruits. This thing really does hide the booze well. (It almost feels like a port wine?)
The taste is crazily sweet... As it should be given the name.
Slight thick n’ oily, with a quite flat carb. Since I do have a sweet tooth, this was something I enjoyed...

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours dark brown/black with no head...light sediment. Aroma has boozy roastiness...mild ash and bitter dark chocolate. Flavor is sweet!...raisins, brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit that comes across almost like port...lots going on! Mouthfeel is medium and syrupy with a roasty dakr fruit/molasses finish that warms. This is way too sweet for me...definitely a dessert beer!!

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours murky dark brown unclear in color with a very small head that dissipates quickly. The aroma brings a bit of sweet vanilla and earthy wood. The flavor brings very pleasantly sweet roasted malts, the coffee is faded in the background from the forward sweetness. The body is creamy and nice as well.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
5 years old when sampled. Black with a small diminishing brown head. Powerfull desert like aroma. Cocoa, toffee, coffee, vanilla and dark fruits like dates. Thick sticky palate. Again powerfull sweetness, but its complex and balanced by alchohol, so its not cloying. The complex sweet tastyness follows into the finish. Very good. Think the 5 years made it more balanced than a fresh one would be.
