Ingredients: Malted barley, wheat, malted wheat, sugar, hops, yeast and local Grimstad water. It is very difficult to brew a complex and balanced Belgian-style tripel ale, but we have made an attempt at brewing one anyway! Our respect and admiration for those who master the skill and art of brewing excellent ale of this style is limitless. Tripels often pair with cheese, seafood and fresh vegetables.

En tripel er et fruktig og sterkt ol med en lett og elegant kropp. Vi i Nøgne Ø liker å gjøre ting på vår egen måte. <<Hvordan lage en sinatursmak i en tripel?>>, spurte vi oss selv på ett tidspunkt. Vi konkluderte med at torvrøkt malt av skotsk opprinnelse var svaret.

from la Mise en Bière - pours a clear blond-bronze beer with a modest head retention; estery nose with notes of pears, apples and candy sugar; full-bodied and fairly sweet, subtle but fair carbonation, tasty and lively palate; some residual sweetness and more long estery fruity and spicy notes in the finish - stylish indeed

Bottle, 500ml. A cloudy golden beer with a small white head. Aroma is of yeast, some citrics and alcohol. It has a very faint aroma of vinegar. Taste is bitter with an alcoholic finish. There is some carbonation and considerable astringency. Sligthly acidic character. Not bad, but I think I prefer the Gouden Carolus Triple.

Bottle, 500ml. Cloudy golden with a foamy offwhite head. Dank citrus and earthy yeast aromas, with a slight touch of mint. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Dry, but with low astringency. Slight but unmistakable smoked character, with a strong herbal feel. Not as sweet as most tripels, with a robust bitter and alcohol finish. Very interesting, the most unorthodox tripel you’ll ever drink.

Draft at Beer Temple. Pours hazy dark golden with an off white head. Aroma of herbs, citrus, yeast, pineapple, light sweet malt. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden in color with a thick white head. Ripe garden fruityness, sweet sugar, bit of peppery spicyness, green herbs and garden earthyness in aroma. Feels quite nice and well balanced so far. Lemony juicyness, bit of green grassyness, some smokey tones and bit of apricot in taste. Fairly dry as well. Good tasting with just enough bitterness and biting spicyness making it enjoyable to drink. Bit of yeasty notes in the end.

Piana spora, kremowa, trudna do opanowania po otwarciu kapsla, ładny lejsing. Kolor brudno-pomarańczowy, miodowy, mętny. W zapachu wybijają się białe owoce, jabłka, liczi, agrest, ananas, jest chmiel oraz drożdże. W smaku dzieje się natomiast znacznie więcej - smaki słodkie przeplatają się z owocowymi, czuć goryczkę lekko chmielową i grejpfrutową, po kolejnych łykach pojawiają się suszone owoce, lekka żywica, wino musujące i skórka domowego chleba, wysycenie początkowo wysokie szybko spada do umiarkowanego. Piwo dość treściwe, gęste (zwłaszcza po ogrzaniu się), ale jednocześnie idealnie zbalansowane, nie czuć alkoholu (poza wyraźnym rozgrzewaniem w przełyku) a owocowość sprawia, że jest stosunkowo pijalne na wzór piw belgijskich (ale bez zapachu stajni).

An aged sample so here goes.
At just on cool and into a snifter. Fine conditioning swathes its pastel orange body rising to atmosphere but falls short of producing a head. Aroma is dominated by stewed rhubarb and apple with hints of guava and papaya, pear drops, alcohol spice and bready yeast. Classic Tripel on the palate. Light, effervescent, fruity, spiced and supple with a nice hint of the ABV in the finish. Candyish with a levelled, yeasty profile. Tangy, tart and wheaty being the dominant grain. Clean and flush. Juicy fruit such as cantaloupe, papaya and guava give it a tropical fare. Light bodied but does sit heavy in the stomach so I’ll stop at the one given the option. Good stuff for a three year old Tripel. Refreshing!! (50cL, Batch 699a, Brewed 20/09/11, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

30 cl, nydt på fad, 9,0 % ABV, hos TAP10 på Østerbro, 17. oktober 2014. Ufiltreret honningfarvet norsk Tripel med lille flygtig offwhite skumtop på 1/2 cm, som svinder til næsten kun kant. Aroma af frisk eksotisk frugt og humle. Appelsin. Gær-noter. Dejlig smag med god balance mellem sødme og bitterhed, dog er førstegangsindtrykket domineret af syrlighed/sødme. Eftersmagen har en dejlig gærbitterhed, som sidder i svælget længe. Meget drikkelig. Vel karboneret på et medium niveau, som også er typisk for Triple'r og medium til kraftig krop. God lang eftersmag og et meget fint skud i bøssen i producering af en Triple.

"not what i expected from the style. as a matter of fact, i’m not sure i;d be able to tell this was supposed to be a tripel if it was a blind tasting. lacks the fruity yeastiness and has a thicker body - like a tripel/barleywine hybrid. sweet, but not in the same way as most in the style. malt more apparent than yeast. cloudy orange, and thick. ok overall, but missed the style mark. a bit on the boring side for Nogne O."
