On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Dark brown colour, large beige head. Aroma of wood, smoke, vanilla, mild coffee and chocolate. Smooth and medium sweet flavour, high drinkability, but still fairly complex. More malty than hoppy, notes of oak, vanilla, bourbon, chocolate. Excellent beer.

Draught pint@Nøgne Ø Tap Takeover, Red Hot, München 03/2015. Fine rummy muscuvado sugars and refined caramels are written large in this bordeux-brown US barley wine style composition, but never overpower or fume out the delicate, silky-dense brown ale malt cushion underneath thanks to Nøgne Ø Scandinavian sense of moderation when applying postmodern US styles to UK-oriented ingredients and palates. Verges into dessert/browny territory, rum-soaked, before being called back to PoMo beer land by an arresting helping of woody, resinous hops.

On tap @ Bergen International Whisky & Beer Festival 2015. Pours a deep brown body with a medium off-white head. Nose is rum, brown sugar, wood, raisins and hints of mild smoke, caramel and mild chocolate. Taste is vanilla, wood, raisins, brown sugar, toffee, grains, alcohol and hints of deep malts, chocolate and rum. Full body, medium carbonation. Complex, rich, sweet and nice - this is how I like my big beers. A tad bit too vanilla-rummy perhaps, but this is forgivable. Generally, it’s just damn tasty.
