COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name of this beer is "Peculiar Christmas" in English. This spiced Christmas ale is strange - and indeed a fusion beer. We have gathered inspiration from the Norwegian drink “gløgg”, and as such this is quite an uncompromising brew. Best served with “goro” and “fattigmann”. Recommended serving temperature 10°C/50°F, but you are free to try on higher temperatures...

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, caramel, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Cascade hops; 5 different spices, English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

15°P, 30 IBU, 6.5 ABV.

Mye jul i lukten, først å fremst nellik og kardemomme sammen med litt ingefær. Dette følger også i smaken som noen ganger kan bli litt tynn. varm og god ettersmak. I det store og hele et underlig juleøl.

500ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Muddy brown in colour with a thin lasting beige head. The aroma is quite spicy with lots of ginger, cloves, cinnamon. The flavour is more ginger, some brown sugar. Finishes long, lingering spice. Seems bigger than it is.

2014/11/20 - Pours an opaque, murky, brown-amber colour with a foamy tan head that quickly reduces to a lingering surface film. Aroma is mild caramel, fruitcake, heavy ginger and spices (cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg),and lots of spiceThere are spicy aromas of rich fruit cake. Taste is similar to nose; fruitcake, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, nutmeg and toasted malt. Mouthfeel is medium with slightly biting carbonation and a crisp, drying finish. Flavours are pleasant, but a little more spice centric than I had hoped. Nonetheless, this is a rather enjoyable brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle 50 cl. Deep red with a nice foamy but shortlived offwhite head. Aroma of anise, cloves and dark fruits. Medium sweet, ligt bitter with a long cloves and anise ending, nice. BB. 08.08.14, tested 28.08.2014

Sampled on draught at the Enoteca Svanen in Oslo. The beer is a dark ruby colour with a healthy whitish head. There are spicy aromas of rich fruit cake. This is really like Christmas in a glass. There is some malt taste but the overwhelming flavours are of cardamom, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and perhaps other spices. This mixture of flavours comes together very well, and there is a pleasantly dry finish from the fruity hops. This is a really wonderful, carefully-made brew and immediately put me in the Christmas spirit - not bad for the 14th November!

Poutlrs dark brown aroma is herbal with some pine and spicy cinnamon. Flavor has a bready malty back bone with more herbal piney flavor.

"To start, none of the spices listed in the brewer’s description above are subtle, save for the coriander. the aroma was awesome...perfect for a spiced ale. the flavor didn’t quite match up...maybe a little TOO intense. My buddy and my wife noted a soapy characteristic. I can see that, very subtle. Made it seem like the spices were a little artificial, but it went away mostly as it warmed. I enjoyed the heavily spiced flavor even if it didn’t quite live up to the aroma or the collaberation beer made with Stone and Jolly Pumpkin. Like the winter ale, it poured dark with an everlasting head. Almost black. Smooth too, if a touch thin. pretty good beer."

[5606-20130727] 500mL bottle. Spiced Christmas cake aroma. Hazy, dark brown body with an enormously foamy tan head. Smoked and spicy fruitcake flavour has a nice nutmeg ginger aftertaste. Full body. Tasty but quite bold. (8/4/8/3/15) 3.8

Loads of cinnamon, ginger and chocolate. Also a lot of roasty aromas, tiny bit of smoke and dried fruits. Very pleasurable aroma, feels like christmas. clear, dark liquid with a medium height head, good lacing. definitely a sweet beer, very tasty. Tastes roasty, lightly bitter. Low carbonation, long finish, medium body. Great beer overall. A one to drink by the fireplace during christmas season.
