COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name of this beer is "Peculiar Christmas" in English. This spiced Christmas ale is strange - and indeed a fusion beer. We have gathered inspiration from the Norwegian drink “gløgg”, and as such this is quite an uncompromising brew. Best served with “goro” and “fattigmann”. Recommended serving temperature 10°C/50°F, but you are free to try on higher temperatures...

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, caramel, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Cascade hops; 5 different spices, English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

15°P, 30 IBU, 6.5 ABV.

2013.03.02 - Nogne Peculiar Yule - 500ml bottle in pint glass. (Vintage). Aroma: What it is, a Christmas ale. Spices, evergreen... Appearance: Pours around 33 on SRM scale. Opaque deep brown mahogany without being all dark or black. Reasonable off white head/carbonation settles to bubbly ring and slick. Taste: Christmas spices, cinnamon, a bit of evergreen, a bit if vegetable. Maybe a trace if ginger. Possibly inhabiting the same ballpark as Bruery 4 Calling Birds. Palate/Mouthfeel: Fairly medium heavy creaminess given that it is not a very high abv at 6.5%. Aroma 5/10, Appearance 4/5, Taste 6/10, Palate 3/5, Overall 14/20

50 cL bottle from the LCBO, served in a goblet. Pours hazy mahogany with a moderate, tan head that fades slowly to a thin cover and leaves a moderate amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are big notes of cloves, ginger and cinnamon, along with coriander and cardamom. Toasted malts linger in the background, with a subtle hop accent. The flavour is lightly sweet with toasted malts along with a huge Christmas spice component from the nose. The finish is long and spicy, with a caramelly note. On the palate, it is full in body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice Christmas brew; it has all the requisite spices, but also a nice malt profile. Well done. 2012-12-20

Quite funky taste for a beer. Really fruity, and hints of christmas spices, will go great to christmas biscuits and nuts, but not quite that drinkable all alone. . Dry finish with medium body. Not my cup of beer.

Dark brown with a airy mocha head. Aroma is christmas in a glass, orange, spices, cinnamon, "pepparkaka", tree, raisins, "glöggig". Taste: slightly bitter and some nice caramel sweetness in there, noes of spices, oranges, pinetree, gingerbread, etc. A nice christmas beer for sure! 2011 bottle

Aroma is of sweet glögg, sweet and spicy. Taste was dryer than I expected. I think the cardamom is a tad dominating. Pleasant enough, it would have been great with something sweet. Like a carrot cake.

Up until recently the most remarkable beer I have ever consumer as Sunturnbrew. It sat as the best beer I have ever tasted with a score at around 4.7. I could not picture a better beer until Westvleteren came along and then it did. I was spell-bound. I bought a bottle and am leaving it to mature and I will see what happens in a year or so. This one reeks of the same producer, but nowhere near the same method. Purplish, tawny port colour and I wish I knew how they did that, Mocha head that sat on top of the beer and then buggered off. Aromas of cloves, plum, currant, mace, garam masala, aniseed, cherry-vite, medicinal tinctures and all sorts of things that ought not to be consumed by themselves. Give me a taste and it was as if I was not suppose to open the package: it was someone else’s medication. Pungent, numbing and strong. I have but few regrets about this beer: I am not drunk, I am spellbound by the taste and I am not moved to like it terribly much as I did the Sunturnbrew. For a beer that ought to rock the world, I swoon and forget about its lead singer before I smell bacon and eggs for brekkers.

Draught at Rake. Gingerbread in a glass. Dark not much head, spicy/piney initial taste then gingerbread throughout. Quite pleasant.

Flaska från Systembolaget . Vacker mörkbrun färg. Härlig arom av nejlika och kanel men smakar mest som kall glögg. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
