The name of this beer is "Peculiar Christmas" in English. This spiced Christmas ale is strange - and indeed a fusion beer. We have gathered inspiration from the Norwegian drink “gløgg”, and as such this is quite an uncompromising brew. Best served with “goro” and “fattigmann”. Recommended serving temperature 10°C/50°F, but you are free to try on higher temperatures...

Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, caramel, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Cascade hops; 5 different spices, English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.

15°P, 30 IBU, 6.5 ABV.

Couleur ambrée opaque avec un mince col assez résistant. Aromes assez complexe d’épices comme la canelle, clou de girolle, cardamone, il y a aussi du caramel, herbes et un coté terreux. Une bière interessante!

@ Havregatan 141212. Bottle (500 ml) from Systembolaget. Really spicy and sweet with some roasted notes, cloves and ginger, liquorice, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is long, dry and spicy. Very glögg-ish!

Sample at the Molen monthly tasting. thin creamy off white head. Huge herbal aroma. Clear ruby pour. Lots of herbs in the aftertaste. Well balanced. Well brewed

Aroma is really nice. Loads of spices! Really reminds me of gløgg, as they say themselves. Cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, ginger and cloves. Maybe a little spicyness from the hops or the spices themselves. It’s hard to tell. Flavor is medium bodied, with a good amount of carbonation, but not too much so. Flavor leaves more to be desired as the spices are not as prominent here. The ginger is what stands out between flavors of dark fruits, brown malts, chocolate and coffee. Good beer.

DWG; Bottle 0,5L. Bottled 08.08.13. Pours hazy brown with a large, frothy to creamy, lasting and lacing off-white to tan head. Nose is intense ginger, cardamom, cinnamon and cloves, roasted malt and caramel, light sweet citrus and dark dried fruit Taste is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a lasting, spiced warming finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. If cold "gløgg" is your thing, you will enjoy this.

Flaska från systemet - Verkligen julig arom. Mörk men ändå något genomskinlig. Beigt skum som stannar. Väldigt julig smak, påminner lite om glögg och pepparkakor. Tyvärr något tunn i kroppen i min mening.

Bottle from the Dundurn LCBO. Pours extremely active, which I always find a pain in the ass and generally a waste of beer, but it wasn’t too bad. Quite heady, but it dies down a bit, lots of clingy lace, body is dark brown with an orange hue. Nose is Christmas spice, and perhaps some Belgian yeast with caramel too. Tastes spicey, maybe a touch bitter, good malt backbone with some roasty notes. Nice holiday brew.

Very rich and spicy on the nose. Ginger seems to be the most prominent on the palate, and the finish gives way to a beautiful, light chocolate malt and buttery toffee flavour. Glorious stuff.

Bottle, shared with friends at game night. Dark brown, light beige head. Very spicy nose, figs and caramel too. Dark sugars, figs, strong spices with cinnamon and clove standing out, hint of mint (more sarsaparilla than mint). Really delicious--a standout Christmas seasonal.
